February 9, 201511 yr What does Votto realistically have to do to meet expectations this season for Red's fans! Here is what an average season has looked like for him... Career AVG over 162 games is .310 (.337 career high) Career HR over 162 games is 28 (37 career high) Career RBI over 162 games is 94 (113 career high) Career OBP over 162 games is .417 (.474 career high) Career BB over 162 games is 104 (135 career high) Career Runs over 162 games is 95 (106 career high)
February 9, 201511 yr I anticipate he hits somewhere between .300-.320 with 20-25 HRs, 80-100 RBI, an OBP of somewhere around .420-.430, and about 40 2B's.

I'd be happy with that.

February 9, 201511 yr wow This is how you cripple a small market/medium market team. Would your Cardinals have signed that contract??? I doubt it.

I'm not a Reds fan but I've been saying all winter that I think this team will surprise people and that's because Votto and Bruce are going to bounce back. Think about the addition of Votto and Bruce (avg year numbers) to the lineup. I did have a dream this weekend the Reds were down 6-3 on Opening Day and Votto hit a 3 run shot in the visitor bullpen to tie it and he was back. I'm dying for baseball to start...

The only number I'm skeptical about is HR's. I know he could not have been 100% healthy last year but with, what seems, an even more willingness to go the other way I think his power numbers may suffer. I hope we see 20+ but wouldn't be surprised to see 15-20.

Even if his HR #s are lower, it isn't necessarily a bad thing as guys like Frazier and Meso should be able to make up for his power outage. As long as he's hitting over .300 with an OBP over .400, I'm going to be very pleased and I think the Reds will be too.

It just seems like his swing has changed a little bit since that 37 HR year. His swing plane and process have changed, IMO. Maybe that is due to his knee.

February 9, 201511 yr I'd be happy with that. Not worth $20+ million, but I'd be happy with that all things considered. I think people have overinflated expectations of what guys should do. If Votto ends up in the middle of my projections: .310 avg., 23 HRs, 90 RBI, .430 OBP, and 40 2Bs and the Reds are in contention or make the postseason, I'd love to see the numbers of the guy who beats him out for MVP.
February 9, 201511 yr .317 avg., 21 HRs, 84 RBI, .404 OBP, 38 2Bs, and 27 SBs That's McCutchen's line from 2013 when he won the MVP. If Votto puts up the numbers I mentioned, he's worth every bit of his contract IMO.
