Guess What: Wireman Isn't Really Wireman

Featured Replies

I've struggled with this for a few weeks and have finally decided to do something I've been wanting to do for a while.

I'm sure some of you will laugh (and I don't blame), but those of you who actually know me in real life will likely give a thumbs up.

Here goes...

I joined BGP way, way back when. I'm honestly not even sure how long ago it was. At that time, I was married to a girl from Elliott County and we lived in Morehead. For years and year, I was an Elliott County fan and watched Timmy Knipp, Jon Ferguson and the Faulkner twins literally grow up. I went to games and was an avid fan.

During that time, I was introduced to BGP and couldn't resist the urge to join. I opted to use my own last name which I've never really regretted. I also decided to make the BGP version of Wireman a character. Sometimes, I was the real me but many times I was just an online character who enjoyed being funny, poking at people and stirring the pot.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time back then being a thorn in the side of Rose Hill, Ashland, Raceland (insert 16th region team name here) fans.

I have been suspended and banned my fair share of times in the past and I've had long running battles with a few other members and former members. The things is, the character Wireman played that off as funny and whatever. The true Wireman struggled behind the keyboard and hated having any kind of conflict, even with online friends.

For whatever reason, I have carried on the BGP character version of myself probably even for a decade or more now.

Here's the thing though...that person is just not me.

I've met many of you in person...Watusi, Guru, TitleTownClown, AdoptedAdmiral, Gametime, PP92, Coach Q...I could go on and on. I think at least most of those guys would agree that online Wireman and real life Wireman don't match up.

The fact is...I'm now a single, loving father of two who has pretty much devoted my life to coaching youth sports, helping people and covering basketball around the state because that's what I love to do. My entire life focus is on my kiddos and spreading the word about basketball in our state and the surrounding states. I work a day job and then I go home and work a night and weekend job. It's time consuming but I make good money and it's what I love to do. There are days that I'll work my real job, go coach a youth soccer game and then write until 2:00-3:00 a.m. in the morning...then get up and do it over again. I am a Christian who attends church regularly, although not as much during the season as I'd like to. I try to do the right things in life and I will go out of my way to try to help people if I can at all

I'm doing this now because most of you know who I am at this point and I'm tired of pretending to be someone I'm not, even if it is funny at times. Yes, I enjoy stirring the pot. Go figure.

Something happened recently that made this decision easier for me and while that has been straightened out now...I'm tired of the confusion. And much like leading a double life, it's time consuming and confusing to pretend to be something you're not.

To make a long story short, I'm Anthony Wireman. I run Allkyhoops. I'm a great dad and a good guy. And...I'm sorry for being something that I'm not on here for all these years. It was fun, but it's time to come clean and be me. Sorry guys and gals. Believe it or not, I really do love BGP and all of you.

Good post; sounds like your really at a good place in your life right now.

I feel like I just entered an intervention or an AA meeting. I think a lot of us could say the same thing so kudos to you for stepping up to the plate! Sounds like you have a great life and are proud of it; nothing wrong with that! Thank you for sharing it with us!

Just be yourself, everybody else is already taken. :thumb:

Seriously, it takes a lot of guts to post something like that.

You bring a lot of insight to BGP, Wireman, please keep it coming. I'm just not sure BGP is ready for a kinder, gentler Wireman :D

Whomever you are, I like it.

Love your sense of humor AW . so should expect a kindler gentler Wireman ? I say that tongue in cheek because I've never thought you were a horses back side . :) Also I'd say ( maybe to your chagrin ) that your story and mine are close to the same . Sometimes I intentionally jab people , usually just on politics , and I can re-read some of the stuff I've posted and think " My Good Lord man did I really type that " but I dont actually enjoy my own negativity , if that makes an ounce of sense. Anyway , all is good , I never thought you were confrontational .

Wish i could have caught one of those hotly contested EC home games , I know the whole town and community strongly backed the boys . Love a good HS game. Peace to ya . MD

Nice post! We have probably met at one time or another. My youngest son played AAU with the Faulkner twins and Jonathan Ferguson, and he remains close to the twins. If you were following them, we were probably at the same places many times.

I thought that's what everybody did on here. ;)

Oddly, I have an almost identical story.

Welcome Wireman!

I'll still be funny but the days of stirring the pot and creating controversy just for a laugh are over. :thumb:

As someone who has "battled" with you for years on here, let me say I NEVER thought of you as a bad person, at all. We obviously disagree on most things related to our favorite college teams, but that's what we are all here for. You absolutely ticked me off on several occasions, so well done. :lol2: But I never took any of it personally, and I hope you didn't either. You're a veteran here, and as Toots said, you do bring a lot to the site.

Keep doing YOU, whoever that person is. :thumb:

The thing is...especially since I've been doing allkyhoops...I actually like Louisville basketball and have great respect for Coach Pitino. I'm definitely a Morehead State fan and a Kentucky fan but I have great relationships at all the other schools now and I root for them on most occasions.

I bet you never expected that :thumb:

I tend to think that persona most people have on here is an exaggerated version of their "in-person" self.

Well congrats and continued success....for a brief minute I thought you were becoming the Bruce Jenner of bgp!
