How did the CovCath powers that be figure out Coach Wirth applied at Roger Bacon?

Wouldn't the potential future employer call the current employer to inquire about any pertinent issues in reviewing the candidate and his background? Seems to me like that would be the "leak"

Sounds like the real world, this is one of those high school soap operas. But to answer your question, hell no.

My understanding is that Principal Rowe and Coach Wirth had already come to an agreement about certain coaches not returning for the '15 football season. Assistant coaching is not the reason he is gone.

I have heard different stories on this, Roberts I heard agreed not to come back, but the other 2 or 3 coaches I have not heard one way or the other.

I do know that it was more than letting coaches go, I was told over the weekend that Rowe had been talking to "Football people" outside the program after the Beechwood game on what changes needed to be made. One of the major changes that needed to be made was in the off-season and conditioning program. I was stocked to learn that CovCath was not running once the season started or even before. I was also told that this was a major disagreement between Ray and Wirth, and anyone whoever played for Ray knows you run and run and run some more.

I also heard that it was one of the complaints Rowe was getting from parents.

Some believed that conditioning or lack of conditioning was playing a major factor in the injury problem the last few years.

Wirth took the attitude that this is his program and he will run it his way .

I guess feeling that he was going have to make change he did not agree with, he resigned.

Also I heard about the Roger Bacon job from a current players parent , before last Tuesday.

All it takes to leak out, is ONE person on the hiring committee,to tell his buddy who applied.....and eventually everyone knows.

Obviously someone had an agenda to leak it. Not sure who.

Regardless, CCH wouldn't have had to hear that he had applied to know he was out there applying and looking. He was unhappy. I was told his wife couldn't even sit near the CCH fans because of how disgusting they acted and the things they said. It's been that way for at least a decade now and you can see it in the turnover and the results. When my family was there, I was at every football, basketball, and baseball game. And it never failed, people were so rude and awful about the coach, the kids, whatever (I'll caveat that with no one was ever rude or disrespectful about Coach K). I had to restrain myself when people commented on my brother (I wasn't always successful)-in fact at his final game as QB his senior year I was incredibly disgusted at the words and actions out of the JV QB's father as my entire family sat next to him. He called and apologized eventually, but it was a complete mircocosm of how entitled and disrespectful people got over sports at CCH.

NOTE: It was not all parents and kids. There are some great people down there, but the bad are REALLY bad. I have no idea if my family feels or views it the same way I did (Saying this because I think a group of you know who I am and who my family is and MY words are reflective of me only).

I think what needs to be realized and has not yet been accepted by the unruly down there is...you're not a premier job at this point. You're an underpaying job with a difficult group of parents and more drama and baggage than it's worth. There is a reason the turnover is so great. Coaches can deal with talent pool dips and developing talent. They have trouble with the other stuff. CCH is a wonderful place, but it needs to come back down to earth a bit. You should be supporting your coaches, the kids, etc.

I can't say for sure whether or not the info about Coach Wirth's interviewing at Roger Bacon was a matter of someone's agenda or not...but I don't think it's necessarily a given that it was.

I agree that Coach Wirth was unhappy at Cov Cath. Often times you could tell it by his demeanor - particularly at school events outside of football games - and even moreso in the things he would say when he wasn't around his coworkers, students, and players. It was also apparent that he was unhappy in the fact that he interviewed for the Boone County head coach job in early 2013, and then he interviewed for the Ryle and LaSalle jobs in early 2014.

I also will agree with you that Cov Cath has some bad fans. I would even agree that sometimes they have some really bad fans - but not always. I think every school has some parents and fans that the more reasonable folks in the community would rather just have shut their mouths, or even go away all together. I'll even concede that in the case of private schools, there are regularly people who feel that they deserve to have more of a voice simply because they pay tuition for their child to attend that school...and what those folks don't realize, for whatever reason, is the fact that every other student at that school has parents paying that same tuition as well.

I can appreciate your trying to point out faults at Cov Cath as someone who was apparently involved within the Cov Cath community, but it seems that you're being pretty critical of the Cov Cath fans. I started following Cov Cath football and attending their games in 1987, and I can easily say that I've been to hundreds of their games, home and away. There have been times when they have had bad fans...but it sure reads like you're painting the reality of the situation with a pretty broad brush in your post. Sounds like in your experience, there are a few bad grapes spoiling the whole bunch. I'll give it to you that sometimes there are certainly a few bad grapes...and maybe a downright rotten one from time to time...but the bunch, by and large, is just fine.

Not to throw stones, but I think often times family members of involved parties are hyper-sensitive to any kind of criticism (merited or not) by fans, particularly the families of coaches and players in prominent positions. For example, I remember when my younger brother was playing defensive end and got caught biting on a reverse play, a comment - an ACCURATE comment - was made by a fan that "if [my brother] had stayed home, that would have been a tackle behind the line of scrimmage instead of a first down". My mom could have had the guy's head for making that kind of a "nasty comment" about her son, when in all reality, the guy had only said exactly what was true, and my mom just had her feelings hurt hearing something said about her boy. I'm not trying, at all, to say that there weren't necessarily nasty or rude things said about your brother in your earshot, but in my experience over the years, it's just not as bad as you're saying.

Also, as for your comment about Coach K (assuming it was meant in reference to Coach Krumps and not Coach Kaelin), if you don't think he is subject to criticism just as much as any other coach at Cov Cath, you're either not around enough, or you're deaf to it.

Lastly, as for the coaching turnover at Cov Cath being "so great", I don't know what turnover you're looking at. Coach Ray retired after 30 years as coach, just as he'd planned to for years. Coach Rodenberg left under no pressure from the Cov Cath administration, community, or parents...having just won a state title. He used Cov Cath as a stepping stone to get a better job, just like pretty much everyone knew he was going to to. Coach Brossart was shown the door after 2 years, and there were definitely some vocal parents that were happy to see him gone. Not everyone fits a program. Coach Wirth is leaving after 6 years. Removing Coach Ray and Coach Rodenberg from the scenario, seeing as their departures were not the subject of any "drama", and you've got two coaches over the course of 8 years. Sure, I think everyone would be happy to have that number only be one coach over the course of 8 years, but c'est la vie.

I'm not really buying the idea that conditioning had much to do with the injuries the past couple years. Many of the kids injured were in terrific shape - heck Luke Bir was one of the strongest and most fit kids in the area pound for pound- didn't prevent him from a collarbone injury. Sam Burchell? Athletic freak and well conditioned stud- didn't stop him from an ankle injury. Plenty of other examples contradicting the off season conditioning thing but you get the point.

Now I do think there should have been more cardio conditioning in season- but I think it's a stretch to say all the injuries were due to something that was or was not happening in the off season.

My question is, "If your ultimate goal is to beat Highlands, why are you not beating them in the offseason?" You can't magically reach that conditioning level the week of the game.

Not going to go into it but I can assure you I'm critical of my brother. The things said were out of line. And I heard the same aimed at other kids too. I'm not painting with a broad brush. I said they have some great people. But their bad ones are very bad and I don't think it's as rare as you think.

I also noted my experience was across the past decade. I would not know what happened prior to then or how the atmosphere was but I've heard nothing bad about Coach Ray.

Coach Ray retired after the 2004 season...so a decade ago plus one year. That's why I included him in my post. I'm just pointing out that the turnover at Cov Cath hasn't been "so great" in the grand scheme. As someone who does hiring, I'm more than happy to bring someone on who is going to give me 6 years at my company.

Forgot to mention, I again said my experience was over the past ten years. And in those ten years lots of turnover. No denying that.

Rodenberg left for many reasons, one of which was the politics at CCH. Roger Bacon was not his dream job as you noted above. Moeller was. He left for Roger Bacon. He could have stayed at CCH and still gotten that Moeller job. He didn't.

Brossart left (let go) because his relationship with parents, administration, and players at times was contentious.

Wirth now almost the same as above. He lasted 6 years which is impressive, though.

3 in 10 years to me isn't the worst but I don't think it's a great reflection either.

I was in a hurry when I responded earlier but with the positions my brother played, I heard A LOT of comments, some good and some bad. I really don't care about bad comments. The things I heard multiple times that I'm referencing extend beyond "bad." I won't go into detail as some of the people are on here and later acknowledged they were wrong, but regardless I'm not being hyper sensitive. And I've admittedly said at times I did not handle myself well either when I heard the comments.

Understood and I agree with you. But those 6 years weren't a "I want to be here" 6 years. They were a..."please let something else come along" about 3 years in max.

I promise you that Cov Cath was working the off season- 5 days a week from January till the dead period- weights, speed and agility etc.

Someone with a finer eye for strength and conditioning might have done some things different- but they did work their butts off.

A little off the wall------but didn't Roger Staubach go to Roger Bacon?

No but Kevin Bacon went to Roger Bacon...:thumb:

One trip to the paint store in the morning and Tdyballgame will have this thing cleared up within minutes...this you can count on:thumb:

I didn't mean that the players weren't working hard. You can spin your wheels and the engine will be revving, but if you aren't going anywhere, then you aren't making up any distance. I have heard that a big point of contention was that HE wanted to run the conditioning. ASAP reached out to him before Ruthsatz bought in, and he said "No, thanks." That is fine, but if you are going to eliminate your players from training w/ professional coaches for 3 months, you better have something special.

What was the question again?
