February 2, 201511 yr The Votto deal was NEVER smart IMO...and I said so at the time. I cannot remember a 10 year contract for any player in baseball ever working out well for the team. Correct me if I am forgetting one. The Votto deal is especially bad for a team with limited financial resources like the Reds. The Yankees can afford a bad long term expensive deal but the Reds cannot. I wish the Reds did not lock up Bailey for so long because it forced them to deal Latos, who is frankly much better. I do admit that the Reds got a very bad break in that Votto seems to be very fragile. Some guys are injury prone and slow healers and Votto seems to be one of them. I am not sure about his mental state either. Miguel Cabrera and Pujols with the Cardinals are good long term deals.
February 3, 201511 yr Love his bat, just hope he holds up with the wear and tear of behind the plate.
February 4, 201511 yr Miguel Cabrera and Pujols with the Cardinals are good long term deals. Pujols? The Cardinals let him go - they let the Angels sign him to that insane contract, which the Angels will regret if not already. I am not sure how long of a contract Pujols signed with the Cardinals before they let him go. I doubt it was longer than 5 years - could be wrong though.

In 2004, Cardinals signed him to a 7 year $100m contract with an 8th year club option for $16m.
February 4, 201511 yr All this reds talk......add it all up and what does it get you? Another 72-90 season......
February 4, 201511 yr I really like Mesoraco and this is a great deal for the Reds. I think he becomes THE guy for this team. They need a fiery competitor to be a leader.
February 5, 201511 yr I've been saying for a while. Trade Cueto, and start to build around the young talent the Reds have up here already in Meso, Frazier, Hamilton., unfortunately Bailey. Then you'll throw in an old Votto, with young pitchers coming up, and Winker. In 2-3 years, they could open up a whole new window.
