January 26, 201511 yr If they eliminate the shift, doesn't that go against them also trying to speed up the game to make it not as long? More offense means longer innings.
January 26, 201511 yr If they eliminate the shift, doesn't that go against them also trying to speed up the game to make it not as long? More offense means longer innings. It would seem so... And it's dumb to worry about speeding up the game anyway. The average length baseball game isn't much longer (I don't think) than an NFL game. Personally, I think baseball is more exciting live than football, because you don't have to sit there and watch guys stand around waiting on tv timeouts. The only break in action in baseball is when teams switch from offense to defense...a natural break in action. I'm not 100% against speeding up some pitchers and batters... But other than that, I'd leave it alone. Not even sure I'd employ a clock, because some at bats are more important than others during the course of a game... And may require more thought on the part of the pitcher and/or hitter. But if a pitcher or hitter is consistently "taking all day" then I think the umpire should "warn" them and have a signal to them that a ball or strike is about to be called depending on who the offending party is.

Baseball is a great be there sport, but it is bad television product.
January 26, 201511 yr I've never understood why on an intentional walk you have to physically throw 4 pitches.
January 26, 201511 yr I've never understood why on an intentional walk you have to physically throw 4 pitches. Good point, I've never seen a MLB pitcher throw a wild pitch while walking a guy... So why waste time on it. Maybe someone has thrown a wild one in the past, but has to be less than 1% I bet. Do away with it and save a little time.
January 26, 201511 yr In other news, Hockey players will not be able to ice the puck. Or fight..........dang!
January 26, 201511 yr One change I'd love to see enacted, although it's not feasible, is make ballpark dimensions uniform. Only sport there is that the playing field isn't uniform. I used to think this as well but I like the uniqueness of the different fields. I'd hate to see the Green Monster took down.
January 26, 201511 yr NFL style salary cap would better balance talent across MLB and make for more competitive games.

January 26, 201511 yr You wouldn't have to take it down. It could be moved. There's a street behind it right? Seems kind of impossible to me
January 26, 201511 yr I hope they enact a pitch clock. That will really help the speed of the game. I think the did it in Arozona Fall ball this year and games were significantly less
