January 28, 201511 yr Pitchers and batters are both equally to blame. Both want to make the other wait, to try to get them out of rhythm. As to the warm ups, there are some things you can do away with, and some that you can't. You can't expect a starting pitcher to sit on the bench for 20 minutes, and then come in and start throwing live balls without warming up just a little. Relief pitchers on the other hand, can do the majority of their warming up in the bullpen. And while removing any warmups from the mound sounds good, those guys still deserve the right to at least get the footing for their landing settled. (And yes, it makes a difference!) You may not need 8 pitches or whatever they're getting right now, but you still should get 3 or 4.
