Covington Catholic 54 Holmes 42

Why can't this team just win and people say they outplayed their opponent. I can tell you that when the student section started chanting overrated and Division 3 several coaches gave them the knock it off hand signals and squelched that immediately. Doesn't sound like a coaching staff that condones the style of trash talk you site above.

As Walter said neither team played well but one did play well enough to get the W.

I only ask if the players were issued specific instructions BY the coaches to say such things? The colonel crazies are unparalleled in nky for their school spirit. We could use more like them at other schools.

At this point it's up to CCH whether they will answer the question directly. Personally, I think they owe their supporters an honest answer.

I promise you, CCH players were not instructed to "trash talk." The coaches have perspective and realize that this is high school basketball and would never THINK about telling their players to do start anything.

I can tell you this though, these Covcath players will not back down. But I cannot stress enough that the coaches did not instruct or hint at the idea of calling Holmes players specific insults.

All, instead of the debate perhaps the CCH coaching staff and administration could make a statement. It's a big enough deal for the 'win with honor' crowd that they should step up settle the issue. These are minors that could be negatively influenced by people in authority.

They should "make a statement" to shut up some people who started a rumor out of thin air? Please. You are the only poster who has made this accusation. The CCH coaches are miles above listening to blatant lies.

God forbid CovCath wins a game in any sport and doesn't get accused of something. Maybe its possible they are just a damn good team with a damn good coaching staff.

^InItTiWinIt, I agree with all you have said in this thread. BUT, as we all know, if CCH wasn't winning, wasn't a threat, no one will be discussing this, period! I agree, these are rumors, when someone has facts then I'll listen, but not when someone may be butt hurt because they can't stop a player or team. I don't care what could be said on the court, both teams have the objective to win! If someone is allowing the other team to get into their heads in game, they will have a lot bigger issues in life.

Like Walter said. Unfortunately it's becoming a part of the game.

Not an excuse in my opinion. This isn't the NBA where trash talking is permitted. There are sportsmanship rules that the KHSAA lives by and if the officials are not doing their job then this needs to go higher up.

Take responsibility for your actions. Them being minors is just an excuse. They make their own decisions all the time.

I'm not saying this is true or not but I did bring this up during the CCH/NCC thread. If it is becoming a norm among some teams then something needs to be done. There is no place in High School sports for this.

This is why CovCath reminds me of early 90 Duke. The Champs who play tough man to man, like to push physicality on the ball handler to the limit, get in great position to take charges so officials are constantly making 50/50 calls, and then telling you all game how great they are and you are not. All while wearing white and blue and attending a private school. If I played for them, I would revel in that. If I played against them, I would want to beat the hell out of them. I like it. It makes for a good regional when NewCath ultimately beats them.

I hope that CovCath players are not saying things on the court that cross the line.

I tell both of my boys that there are certain things you should not say inside the lines, because life is real outside the lines. You never know who you could run into at night when you are by yourself.

Covcath is starting to get a reputation around NKY along with a couple of their players....that's no secret. Every team goes in to a match up with them expecting certain things because of this.

Not really a big deal, IMO. Kids do this on their own whether a coach tells them to or not. Just apart of the game these days, i guess. It's up to the players to keep their composure and not let it affect how they play.

Trash talking has always been apart of the game what are you talking about ?

What kind of a neighborhood do you live in ?? LOL

Is every thread now going to be a discussion about "talking?"

Cityboy's accusations are disappointing. That's an accusation that CCH can't win. It's now out there. "Word is?" That's it?

You saw during the game that the staff wasn't going to let the Crazies yell "overrated" to Bolden. Wouldn't that have gotten into his head?

You've got two rivals. Kids yap. Kids are competitive.

I can't wait to see the next lame accusations after a big rivalry win for CCH.

I almost spit my Pepsi out saying CCH administration needs to issue a statement. Good lord.

I am not a "fan" of CCH, but I am a fan of the way they have played since the hiring of Coach R. I think it's funny that this thread was started with the score of a game, that it appears that CCH finished, and Holmes did not, and people want to start bashing them.

Cityboy, what you are doing, is just as bad as what you accuse those players of doing. Starting rumors and slandering people, and groups of people. Shame on you.

Say what you want, but "trash talk" happens. You coach your kids to get into the mentality of the opponent, WITHOUT crossing the personal line. As an educator, I have seen kids talk trash at academic team events, cheer events, volleyball, soccer, football, and ever other sport. It happens.

Watch any good team, or any good player, and they all talk and make emotional gestures (fist pumps, stare down, high fives, pointing fingers, waving arms, screaming, etc). If you don't like it, stop them from making good plays and winning games.

Simple response after the post by City Boy:

That topic may be a good title for a new thread -- feel free to start one. Now back to the game.

Couple of wiley old BGP veterans got sucked in on this one. The best way to avoid tangents is to post back to the original topic.

Per your quote, you saw during the game that the staff wasn't going to let the crazies yell "overrated", to Bolden. This is an accusation made from here say also,,From an earlier post by you, you were not at the game.

Read again, my man. I didn't say " I saw." People on here referred to it in general and I talked to people who where there.
