January 22, 201511 yr UGA Head Coach Marc Richt received a two year contact extension through 2019 along with a raise that brings his salary to around 4 million per year. Mark Richt agrees to two-year extension, raise with Georgia Bulldogs - ESPN I personally was glad to hear it and to know that there are people in the UGA administration that have far more intelligence, common sense along with what a leader with the integrity of M. Richt means to young men along with their university than some of the UGA fan base that have been calling for Richt's job for a few years. UGA or practically anyone else in America are and/or would be in great shape with Richt as their football coach.
January 22, 201511 yr I am not saying Richt is a bad coach, but he has had more than his share of time and talent to bring home the goods and he hasn't gotten it done. We are talking 14 seasons now, and 7 seasons since they've made a BCS bowl.

January 22, 201511 yr I would've been more likely to fire Richt than give him an extension (and pay raise). He is not paid to be competitive. He is paid to win a national title. He can coach, but sometimes a fresh start is good for both parties. Is he the Marvin Lewis of college football?

January 23, 201511 yr Author Not many coaches have 10 of 14 seasons with 10 wins or more, Richt does. People don't stop to think that there were more than a couple of years they were beaten by the best team in the country that was in the regular, SEC season and / or SEC Championshup. Yes, UGA has had some disappointing losses in key games but they have won their share as well. There honestly aren't many programs in America that have the year in, year out success that UGA does.
January 23, 201511 yr Is he the Marvin Lewis of college football? No... Richt has actually won in the post season.
January 24, 201511 yr Is he the Marvin Lewis of college football? he's had more players and less arrest than Marvin!

While he's got his share of head scratching losses, I agree. The program has definitely been more successful than plenty of others.
January 25, 201511 yr I have Richt on the list with Stoops in OK for guys that do the least with top talent. At this point, he's way over rated.
February 1, 201511 yr I have Richt on the list with Stoops in OK for guys that do the least with top talent. At this point, he's way over rated. Totally agree NKY Bandit!
February 1, 201511 yr He is a really good guy, but one if the most overrated coaches in the country. He continually underachieved with more than anyone.
February 1, 201511 yr Remember...it took Bobby Bowden 18 years @FSU to win his first title. Took Tom Osbourne 21 years to win his first title Took Joe Paterno 17 years Took Vince Dooley 17 years Took Bo Schembechler....oops he never won one Took Mack Brown 21 years of coaching to win his first title I bet a lot of people were saying the same things about them you guys are saying about Richt, Good guy, just can't win the big one...under achiever!

It is a different era, now. I wonder what the terms of the extension are in terms of buyout, because I think Richt has two years to make the playoff or else he is going to get axed. There is a significant portion of the fan base that have wanted him gone for a while now and I wonder if this extension makes that easier or tougher to do?
