Pride in their school? Carrying on tradition? Giving back to the community through service? Mentoring young men? Love for the game? Love for CovCath? Stepping stone in their career? There are many, many reasons why someone would want to be the next coach.

I know Mike and can tell you he will never coach again. Sad, but true. I agree he could turn the CovCath program into a Highlands beater, but Mike has other battles to fight other than football parents and fans.

I know, right?! I can't hate on CovCath though. I have family that went there and NDA and well, I've grown to love some of those Blueboys I've met on BGP!

Class guy.......Came from an excellent graduating class.........I know lots and lots of 1984 CCH grads and nothing but class.......with one exception. A questionable lad that tdyballgame spent a bunch of time in his kitchen......

Somewhere back in the thread I had heard tell that Mike Woolf was no longer interested in Cov Cath as a whole after what he perceived as his being overlooked during past coaching searches/hires. I should have stated more clearly that it was only information from a semi-decent source. My source may not have been entirely accurate, or maybe Mike has had a bit of a change of heart since his son is no longer in the Ryle system and the Cov Cath job was open for applications.

 

I know I sure wouldn't mind seeing him as head coach.

I curious on how many years Mike has in the Ky school system, he has to be getting somewhat close to his pension. It would be tough to jump, if he was only a few years away.

Kentucky teachers' retirement standard is 55 years old and 27 years of service for full benefits. He graduated from Cov Cath in '88...which is currently the 27 year mark. Also puts him +/- 10 years shy of the 55 year old age requirement for full retirement.

 

Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System

 

"The two (2) types of service retirement available are "Unreduced Benefit" and "Reduced Benefit" retirement.

 

A. Unreduced benefit retirement

 

• Members with twenty-seven (27) or more years of active Kentucky service regardless of age may retire with no reduction in benefits.
  
• Members with five (5) or more years of active Kentucky service who are at least age sixty (60) may retire with no reduction in benefits.
  

 

B. Reduced benefit retirement Members age fifty-five (55) or more but less than age sixty (60) who have five (5) or more years of Kentucky service, but less than twenty-seven (27) years of service, may retire with reduced benefits. My advice to Bob Rowe is to hire a non-CovCath guy, no ties whatsoever, somebody that will shake a guys hand but could give a rats end who's hand he just shook, respect but not reminisce about what others did before him, answer to only one man and that man is the man that hired him, be the best car salesman that anyone has anyone ever seen and start with a schedule that creates wins and momentum and keeps kids healthy for at least 11 games anyway...:thumb:

How did that work out for ya...I believe he was the only coach in CovCath modern day or ever to beat Highlands not once but twice in the same yr...Yeah, yeah Lynn did it in '88 but c'mon he beat Jack, now JR beat Dale and that is saying something right there...nobody ever beat Dale twice while he was at Highlands, not in the same yr.

Rodenberg was that guy. Brossart was that guy. And aside from having been an assistant coach at Cov Cath for a few years previous to his HC position at Badin, so was Wirth.

 

Don't get me wrong, I definitely hear what you're saying, and I don't really disagree with you...but at the same time, I think the potential is certainly there for that to not necessarily add up to a whole hill of beans one way or the other.

 

 

As for what you're saying about Rodenberg, you're right, he did beat Highlands twice in the same year, but he was also handed one of the most talented football teams to have ever played for Cov Cath...I would say that most folks who have kept an eye on the Cov Cath program would tell you that the '92 and '06 football teams are neck and neck for that title. At the same time, although I was not on BGP at the time, all I heard in '06 from EVERYONE I know at Highlands was that the team we beat that year was not one of the best Highlands teams to ever take the field. Not sure how that translates in reality, but man I sure heard a lot of that talk all the same. In the end, I would liken Rodenberg to Duffy: did good things for the football program, wasn't well liked by the school community at large, and didn't do much for the school otherwise.

Duffy was your coach in '88. I also believe Ray beat Dale twice in '93 or '94. Didn't Duffy leave right after winning in '92?

It would have to have been 94 as that was Dale's first year.
