I always thought that the HHS formula was that no one cared about the Frosh and JV records. It was all getting ready for their turn on the varsity run for the championship.

I believe last year's JV only won one game while the year before they only lost one game. Not sure how the freshman have fared but for the past few years I think their records have been nothing to shout about. I've always been amazed at the growth in the players from their freshman year to their senior season. I assume they've put in the work leading up to this season so I'm expecting them to perform like always.

Anyone seen Highlands live with pads on now? How do they look? Not sure these players have done great as Freshman and JV teams, not sure Highlands 2015 will live up to the tradition.

 

First, welcome to The world of Highlands! Oh, from past post, you ask a lot of questions my friend! Hahaha! Similar to another BGP friend I know, but let's not go there.

 

As far as how this years team is looking, I'm told they are shaping up nicely. Couple position changes, but not many. They get their first game action this Friday against one of Ohio's tops teams in St X. That will be a challenge for sure and if it is anything like past scrimmages, Coach W will substitute freely to see what he has and who plays well where.

 

Using years past records can be a dangerous thing. I think last years seniors lost 3 or 4 games as frosh and you see where that got them as Seniors. Your right about their great Tradition. Trying to perform up to those levels is very difficult and challaging for sure. But year after year, teams and players seemed to rise up and succeed. It's crazy. And you know what, it's great to have such a great Tradition to follow.

Only 95 kids? Their roster on Maxpreps lists 111 kids but it hasn't been updated in a while.

95 might be a tad higher than normal. I was thinking they're often in the mid 80 range but it's been a couple years since I really paid attention.

I've got last year's roster somewhere. I'll have to look.

Don't have a lot of facts, just heard people mention... This years juniors were routed by several teams as freshman, covcath and Ryle played in championship game that year... This years seniors I also heard were average as freshman, Ryle and beechwood played in the frosh championship that year...from what I've heard JV teams have fared the same... Poor to average the past three years. But I don't have a lot of facts...please feel free to correct/share records and details if that's not right.

 

This years Seniors were average is a joke right? They had the exact same record as last years Seniors. Beechwood was loaded that year, Ryle beat them in overtime and they lost to Trinity. As sophomores, the JV team went 9-1, so I would not call that average. Time will tell I guess, but I would not hang my hat on frosh and JV records.

Roster in on the KHSAA website and has been for a few weeks.

I don't recommend looking at frosh and jv records to predict varsity success.

That line of thinking just does not work when it comes to HHS.

 

Friday night will be just another practice for Highlands (A lot of guys rolling in and out and the coaches not showing their hand). We will have to wait until the Cooper game to determine where this team is talent-wise. I expect another great year at HHS.

 

I did see Doughtery banging 45 yarders yesterday like they were extra points. Watching him kick is a treat.

Allen, you're correct. That has been the formula for years on end. Does HHS want to win on the frosh and JV level? Of course. That's like asking "Does a bear sh*t in the woods?" It's all about development and keeping kids in the program; like you said. There were multiple kids I played with at HHS who as frosh were flat out bad... But the coaches worked with them day after day and they were committed to being better. Like you, I'm sure, that's why I get frustrated with posters who look at records of 14 year old kids and try to predict how they will play as seniors... Absurd.
