Following a four-year run of only playing the mandated games inside Kentucky borders, Louisville (KY) Trinity released a toned down schedule for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

The Shamrocks will play eight of 10 regular season games against teams from the Bluegrass State for the next two seasons. The change is due, in large part, to the team being redistricted into Class 6A-District Four with Jeffersontown (KY), Eastern (Louisville, KY), Seneca (Louisville, KY), and Ballard (Louisville, KY).

Trinity is a combined 26-0 against those four teams in the last decade.

Trinity kept its rivalry games with Louisville foes Male and St. Xavier while adding games against Lafayette and Pleasure Ridge Park.

It is 6-0 versus Lafayette and Pleasure Ridge Park in the last decade and a more competitive 18-10 vs St. X and Male.

It’s two out-of-state foes will be Ensworth (Nashville, TN) and Brentwood Academy (TN).

Athletic Director Rob Saxton said in a press release that he believes the more localized slate would be of more interest to the supporters of the program.

“We think our fans will enjoy these games,” he said. “There’s a nice blend of local and out-of-town opponents.”

Over its most successful run in school history the team found it difficult to land in-state contests and had gone from 2011-13 with six out-of-state games per season and played last year with seven games against teams from different states.

Trinity won the 2011 National Championship largely on the back of bettering Brentwood Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville, TN), Elder (Cincinnati, OH), St. Xavier (Cincinnati, OH), Indianapolis Cathedral (IN), and Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) much more so than its romp through Kentucky foes.

The Shamrocks have been the most decorated team from Kentucky for decades and has been a regular finisher inside the HSFB100.

In 2008 the team was ranked No. 39; in 2009 the team finished unranked before climbing back to No. 67 in 2010. The group then pushed to the National Title in 2011 before sliding off that pace in 2012 to finish No. 25 .

It went unranked in 2013 and despite being 10-5 in 2014 the team avenged many of its losses down the stretch to win another title and be ranked No. 68.

The Shamrocks could enter the 2015 season without a prospect holding an offer for the first time in six years. It will return defensive end Connor Foos and athlete Rodjay Burns who each could end the year committed to play on Saturday.

The national perception is out and that's fine, doesn't bother me a bit, I'm fine with the schedule.

Never understood why the national perception is such a big deal. I think it would always be more important for a program to actually win a state title than to be ranked 35th in a mythical national ranking that doesn't mean anything. That's just me though.

I'd much rather be able to shout, "We're number one!" than "Some people think we're number 35!".

Sorry but these type of games just don't interest me. I like going to games where you don't know what the outcome will be. But, that is just me.

Trinity won't running clock:

Ensworth, Brentwood Acad., Male or St. X

 

They might against:

Lafayette, Ballard, and PRP

 

They will against:

Jtown, Seneca, and Eastern

 

That looks like a pretty balanced distribution of opponents to me. Solid but not ridiculous schedule.

Some years we've been able to do both. That was pretty sweet.

I've always said when you have the horses for a "National" type schedule i.e. like last season it does help you improve, competitive in every game, when you don't as in '13 it can definitely run you down, no doubt, it's a tricky thing

Strength of schedule as above is still tougher than 99% of the teams looking to take the title in 6A, so they will be more tested than say... Dixie was this last season.

I know there are some silly things on BGP from time to time but that is just silly to even talk about in a national context.
