Sarcasm: the use of words that mean the opposite of what you really want to say.

Given your reference to 'Trinity elitists', I have a hard time believing your first comment was sarcasm.

Ok that's fine.

I've always said when you have the horses for a "National" type schedule i.e. like last season it does help you improve, competitive in every game, when you don't as in '13 it can definitely run you down, no doubt, it's a tricky thing

Or one can think, if you have the players and coaching then who you p,ay makes little if any difference when it comes to how you do in the end.

Except for the fact that you'll have no idea how your team responds to adversity.

This is Dead ON, saw it firsthand this past season, team was talented but when they were tested was when their true character revealed itself, fun to witness/be a part of

Not true at all. I'm not talking about games where you have a running clock everytime. I go back to 2012 when there were some people claiming Cooper didn't win state simply because they didn't play Highlands to prepare themselves. Bowling Green would have been the favorite and would have won 99% of the time that year no matter who Cooper played that season.

Cooper still got to the state championship without playing the St Louis Rams. As long as you aren't having a running clock most of the time you will be just fine.

Are you telling me that last year if Trinity played teams like Lafayette etc. they would have lost state? Really?

That is such a myth. If you are a good team and have good coaches, you won't lose to a Boone Co. in the state finals because you didn't play Ensworth that season.

I really hate to break this to some Trinity folks as well as Highlands folks. Kids who weren't very good in pee wee don't all of a sudden become great in High School, it actually does have more to do than anything else with the fact that these schools happen to get many of the best players in the area to go there and play, that my friends has more to do with winning than anything else. Oh Big Secret exposed Lol!

I'm not saying they would have lost state, i I saying they wouldn't have made it there. They wouldn't have gotten past Male and Male would have hoisted up the trophy this past season.

So then explain this to me....no one else has the schedule that Trinity has year in and year out, that we can all agree on. With that said, you say if they didn't have that schedule last year they wouldn't have even made it to the state title game...then how would the other teams make it there since they don't play the schedule Trinity plays? You see what I'm saying yet? There are always going to have teams in the title game that don't play the schedule Trinity plays so how do they get there if they don't play Ensworth and Moeller and Cincy X and Elder and Colerain etc.? Dixie surely didn't play that tough of a schedule yet they made it to the finals.

Sometimes, believe it or not, having very good players actually does affect how a team does each year.

I guess what I'm saying is this. It's easy to play a national schedule when you have the talent to do so.

When you don't have that type of talent playing that kind of schedule does you no good whatsoever.

Bottomline is, Gran't Co. will not gain anything by playing Trinity, Highlands, Moeller, Cincinnati St X etc. and would have made it just as far as if they didn't play those teams at all.

I'll give this a crack!! I am only speaking of this past season but Male had far superior talent than Trinity. I firmly believe had T not been tested w/ the schedule & forced to improve there's no way we would have beaten Male, they were a great great ballclub, unless you saw them in person you wouldn't have a clue. People just see the name Trinity & assume we just receive championships but that isn't close to what is really going on, I've never seen a team work harder & persevere more than this past seasons team. Talented, yes, the most talented? Not even close, Manual in my opinion was more talented than both Male and Trinity, so there's my 10 cents!!

You've never seen a team work harder than last years T team you say but that is because you haven't watched any other team.

That is another silly claim people (no matter what team they are a fan of) always say and that is they have never seen a team work harder. That's such a silly cliche. There are a ton of teams that work just as hard and many that actually work harder. There are teams that may only win a handful of games that may work harder than any team in the entire state.

Just because a team wins it all doesn't mean they are the hardest working team period. Again I am talking about every team because every team has fans that say their team worked harder than any other team. It's just the thing to say I guess.

Reality and perception are so different, yet people try and have to justify the reason something happened with something that had very little to do with the outcome itself, that is why people say things like "If it wasn't for the tough schedule they played" or "This team worked harder than any other team I've ever seen" The fact of the matter is maybe, just maybe they won the state title because they were the best team....what a concept.

If Trinity didn't have the talent, they wouldn't have won no matter who they played period. Don't make it sound as if it was the biggest underdog achievement in sports history...every year.

Trust me, most of these teams work just as hard as the next.

Talent is an important part of it, nobody will argue that, but it is not the end all and be all. Consider the number of Trinity players with D1 offers or that made it into all-star teams/lists this year. There are a good number of 6A teams that have more athletes of that caliber. Yet, once again Trinity took the state title. We often have talented players, but can win even when we don't have the most talent on the field. The biggest thing that Trinity has going for it is the power of its program. The coaching staff, facilities, and community support forms a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Anyway, I would agree that strength of schedule is not the most important factor. In my opinion it isn't even in the top five most important factors. Nonetheless it is a factor, and good example of it is Dixie Heights. Dixie Heights did not play cupcakes, but at the same time, they did not play anyone on Trinity's level. Thus the offense that had worked against every other team they played was stopped cold by Trinity. Playing a team on Trinity's level earlier in the season would have shown them where their weakness were and emphasized the need to fix them. I am not saying that a stronger schedule would have allowed Dixie Heights to beat Trinity, but they would have made a better showing.

There will always be a team out there that has better players, but when all along your starters there are good players all throughout then that makes a huge difference too. You canhave a team with the best RB (Damien Harris) and the best QB (Sindelar) for example but if the majority of the rest of the starters aren't very good then you won't win much.

so you can't just think about DI players is the only measuring stick you can use when talking about talent on a team. Again, I will use the team I know first hand and that is Cooper 2012, they had 0 DI players and all through the playoffs they played teams with DI recruits (Fant, Timmons) etc. and more, yet Cooper still beat all those teams up to the title game. It's what the majority of your players are, not just the top players on the team.

Trinity didn't have scrubs playing the majority of the positions even if they all didn't have DI scholarship offers.

But what happens when the other team has more D1 offers and a strong core? Like Male, for instance. Would you say that they are populated with scrubs outside of the D1 offers? Yet, after playing a harder schedule Trinity beat them in their second meeting.

Yes, talent is important, but there is still more to the game than that. If talent was all it took to decide the winner then you would never see upsets, which is obviously not the case. Who did you predict to win the Grave Co/Bowling Green game?

But would Dixie Heights have gained anything last year by being challenged in the regular season? It was obvious in the state game that even though they had a QB who could throw the ball they had no passing game whatsoever and when Trinity stifled the running game they were done. Had they been tested a little in the regular season they may have seen just how bad their pass game was and maybe done something to correct it. Would they have won the game, probably not, but when they got behind they wouldn't have looked totally inept either.

I tried to tell all the Dixie people that during the season and they just got mad at me.
