January 13, 201511 yr There are going to be skeptics regardless. I'd say our security measures are more complex than theirs and I'd argue we have more to protect than them seeing as how we likely have more enemies than any of them. There was someone mentioned this morning who was there and is as big a target as Obama would have been, didn't catch the name. Guy from Israel maybe?

January 13, 201511 yr This topic came up last night on one of the executive protection sites I belong to, not one person thought it would be a good idea and that it very well could end as a disaster. But think of this, the total amount of people there was 3.7 million, and there was less than a two day notice. Take into account that the presidential inauguration parade takes several months to prepare, and there are over 20,000 people doing security. Even with all this planning, the president is only supposed to get out of his car in one area, between two very secure government buildings. On one side of the street you have the U.S. Dept of State, and on the other side? You have the FBI headquarters. And even then, you have swarms of security. I wouldn't have sent the Speaker or the President of the Senate. Did we have a big parade of officials from other nations march in the U.S. after 9/11? I remember shopping malls closing as soon as they heard of the attack. To dangerous, France and everyone else on the planet knows that the U.S. will be helping France more than anyone else.
January 13, 201511 yr They always have and have a short memory of the U.S. saving them in WW 1 and 2 Still should have shown the world we back them. Especially since we are better than them. Didn't the French come to our rescue late in the Revolutionary War? As a P.S., what's all this Fayette and Lafayette stuff about down in Lexington?
January 13, 201511 yr Author We didn't save France in WW I. They did fine on their own and laid 3.4 million on the battlefield which was over 4 percent of their population. I think too many get the two world wars confused and clump them into one. We did save France. We entered the war in 1917 and it was over in 1918. It was a stalemate for years, when Russia got out in 1917 Germany was sending all,the troops back to France, but the U.S. entered and with Black Jack Pershing we defeated the Germans and essentially saved France and England.
January 13, 201511 yr There was someone mentioned this morning who was there and is as big a target as Obama would have been, didn't catch the name. Guy from Israel maybe? Netanyahu, correct. France actually advised him not to go, but he did anyway. Hollande’s national security adviser, Jacques Audibert, contacted his Israeli counterpart, Yossi Cohen, and said that Hollande would prefer that Netanyahu not attend. So, actually they preferred he didn't go more so than advising him not to go.
January 19, 201511 yr Some will criticize the President for everything he does or doesn't do. If he had gone to Paris, the same chumps who are criticizing him would have come down on him for going. You know its the truth.
January 19, 201511 yr Some will criticize the President for everything he does or doesn't do. If he had gone to Paris, the same chumps who are criticizing him would have come down on him for going. You know its the truth. I don't think anyone would argue that. That's the nature of politics and has been for our entire history. The arguments stay the same, just the people switch arguments every 2, 4 or 6 years.
January 20, 201511 yr Completely agree. They should have sent Al Sharpton. And Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.
January 20, 201511 yr This might be the stupidest "controversy" ever. My gym always has Fox News on in the locker room and for the life of me I can't see the problem here.
January 20, 201511 yr This might be the stupidest "controversy" ever. My gym always has Fox News on in the locker room and for the life of me I can't see the problem here. I was watching the Today Show this morning and the Chief of Staff basically said it is all on him for not sending someone more higher ranking than the Ambassador. These solidarity walks are great, but having the President or Secretary of State there does not change the effectiveness of it. If I were France or any other country I would not have said a word.
