I don't know that Tilghman will be able to challenge Bowling Green. The Tornado lost some key guys on defense and will still be a junior-dominated team next season, plus the offensive line play is a continual problem. I would say Bowling Green and Hopkinsville are the logical 1-2 picks in the west.

Since Perry Thomas has been there the O-Line has been mediocre if not sloppy. Coach Thomas is a real good defensive minded guy and runs a organized weightroom program. Last year their offense was predictable and the Jones kid didn't live up to the expectations. He had a strong sophomore year and had many expecting even more last year. He's a good athlete capable of taking over but sometimes plays a little too timid.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Bell-Highlands semifinal again.

Better then a Rock-Lex Cath final like we saw this past season!

Not sure if you are plucking at the fact that Lexinton Catholic beat Rock 48-20 or not but Rock was down only 1 point at halftime to them. Rock had 10 players playing both ways after all the injuries that took a toll on them. Rock even had the same 10 players on special teams, whereas Lexington Catholic was platooning on offense, defense and special teams. Not many teams would've played Lexington Catholic that close on their turf with the same 10 guys all night, heck Bowling Green couldn't do it with more. I look forward to a Bell-Rock Region game this year.

Jones' performance actually was about the same. The difference was the receiving corps, which was pretty good in 2004 but was hit hard by graduation. None of the receivers that saw much playing time last season were in the mix the year before, and the group was collectively younger with less speed, athleticism and big-play ability.

The five best in 3A are:IMO

Bowling Green

Highlands

H-Town

Lexington Cath.

Rockcastle Co.

I wasnt...... just saying I'd rather see Bell in the semi game against the almighty Highlands then to see Rock in the semis over Bell any year.

I too look forward to a Bell Rock region game....... most likely the championship. It seems Bell has had alot of trouble in the past 6 years or so beating the Rock in the region tourney so I hope this is the year that changes.

Same-to-ya:confused:

My preseason AAA top 5 would be:

1.Bowling Green

2.Highlands

3.Rockcastle County-My pick to win AAA in 06

4.Lexington Catholic

5.Hoptown

Bell County and Boyle County are right there also...

Oh, and by the way I do NOT think the Ashland deserves to be in the top 5 or even 10 for that matter, but predicting ANOTHER Bell-Rock region is pretty bold at this point.

I wasn't predicting another matchup, I was just implying that I would like for it to happen again. There is a lot of parity in our region, I don't think you can clearly say any one team will be there. That was just my wishful thinking.

Onetoya, if it makes you feel better, I'm hoping for a CovCath-Ashland semifinal game. There only a few things better than November football at Putnam.

I understand where you are coming from ukbellco14. Seems like you have always been complimentary of The Rock on this board. Of course, you have to pull for your team. Hope it is either The Rock or Bell Co in the semi's.

We used to have some exciting games. Maybe the best was the late 80's OT game at Putnam (was it 88?)

Lets do it again - except the ending:irked:

I believe it was fall of 88. A 6 - 0 overtime thriller. The Tomcats missed a fg at the end of regulation as I recall.

Arrrrgh :irked: Yeah, we shut down that big passing game all game long then coach Ray called a a draw play in OT that just killed us. It was an incredibly tough loss but I think it was the fire that led to the state championship in 1990  The only (-) about 90 was that Bell beat you guys before we could get to you (not saying we definitely would have beat ya, but we were awfully strong). Then in '91 at your place C. Hutt(RB) was smokin you guys in the 1st quarter (I think we had 3 TD's?) but he got a bad stinger? and they had him on a board & in the ambulance before our coaches knew what was happening. The ballon was popped as he went of to the ER.

Cheers, Woody Jr
