Best 10th Region Game....Ever...

Featured Replies

2007 title game was a good one, with Miller & Knowles both playing really well. I want to say both had 33 points, but I'm not certain. GRC won it, but it was a great atmosphere.

This one to me was the best, with the 2010 Regional Final where Mason won 62-60 in a classic come from behind win. GREAT Games!

They each had that or very close to it. It was played on a Sunday afternoon. Placed was packed and othesr that didn't attend listened on the radio. One of my favorites.

95 Title Game. It is going to take something very very special to top that one.

A pair of buzzer beaters from 3 to force 2 ots. A one on one dual that combined for 93 points. A team upsetting the 3 time defending champion on their home court to win their first ever region title. A packed house and electric atmosphere. Simply fantastic.

Harrison County beating Maysville in the 1991 Regional Championship. Don't remember the score, but a sophomore Jerry Fogle hit a buzzer-beater to win it. It was Maysville's final game.

Harrison County won 92-90.

Maysville had also lost the district championship that season in a wild game, with Tollesboro beating them 110-107 in double overtime.

I remember being in Maysville with my family that night & listening to that game. Pretty sure Chris Harrison had a point total in the mid-to-upper 50's.

I think Tollesboro beat Maysville 3 or maybe 4 times that year.

Chris Harrison = Brent Bach. Both could score at will and be giant-killers.

I think you're right on the Harrison scoring. Tollesboro lost to Harrison County in the 10th Region semifinals that year, the same Harrison county team that knocked out Maysville the next night. Tollesboro would stay open three more years, falling in their last district tournament game to Mason County, 104-96 in 1994.

Interesting thing about that 1991 district tournament was that the games were held at Fleming County, the first time the district had been held anywhere besides Mason County since 1964. And it had been at Maysville every year from 1950-64!

The 91' Harrison County team was coached by Mike Reitz, who ironically took Maysville to their final state tournament appearance in 1988.

Yep. I was there, rooting for Tollesboro, because I wanted to see a Tollesboro/Maysville Regional final.

This was a game I was going to post about.

From what I understand, the 1977 finals between Maysville and Fleming County was pretty fun until about 10 seconds after it ended.

There is video from that 2010 regional final between Clark and Mason, recorded by Terry Setty. I guess it's good that it appears I haven't gained any weight since then lol

I gave a few players a hug, including coach O'Hearn on the floor. Truly remarkable.

Isn't it amazing to think, it's been 5 years since the Royals have won a regional title. Granted, they really haven't been the best team in region in that time. It just brings back that fun discussion about home court advantage, ah memories : )

This one's pretty obscure, but was one of the best I've seen at any level. St. Pat vs Augusta December 2011.Wasn't an empty seat in the building. Game went to 3 overtimes. The entirety of both teams main rotation fouled out with the exception of Taylor Slack and Ryan Gallenstein for the Saints and Colton Fraysure for A-Town. Slack hit a runner with 18 seconds left to put St. Pat up 86-85. On the next two plays St Pat's JV shooting guard got a HUGE steal and their JV Center clean blocked Tanner Kelsch's shot at the buzzer. Gallenstein, Slack, and Fraysure combined for 78. Had fans and players from almost every school in the area there and all said it was the best game they had ever seen. One of those nights that makes you thankful for Kentucky Highschool Basketball

I'm going way back to last year when fans were crammed into the Igloo for Augusta vs. Mason County in the 39th district semifinal. The intrigue surrounding this game made it so huge. The two squads met in December and the Royals handed Augusta a 86-69 loss as they got some redemption for the previous year's loss in the district tournament at the Fieldhouse when Augusta beat the Royals for the first time ever, 72-61. Can't not mention the 2012 district final at the Igloo between the two when Brent Bach's floater in the lane sat on the front of the rim for what felt like forever and rolled off giving the Royals a 72-71 win. So it went from, wow, they almost did it ('12) to OMG Augusta beat Mason County ('13) to there's no way they could do it again ('14)!! Mason County was 21-5 coming into the game carrying predictions of another region run. Augusta was 18-10 having played a strong schedule to prepare them for the postseason. I don't know what the attendance record is for the Igloo but it had to be challenged on this night. The Royals led 13-6 after the 1st quarter. Then Augusta closed the deficit with a 17-11 2nd quarter to make it 24-23 Royals at the break. I don't recall how many ties and lead changes there were but it was an absolute battle from that point on. Brent Bach had only scored 14 points in the first half and in the 3rd and 4th quarters plus overtime he would drop in 34 of Augusta's 38 points including late free throws that tied the game then put Augusta ahead and gave them the win, 61-60. You could also see this game in a best individual performance thread. So many people have called it one of the best they have ever seen. A big part of the excitement of this one was watching to see what Bach would do next. Mason County seemed to throw every possible defense at him and he just could not be stopped. It was easily one of the most exciting games I've ever been a part of. If you want to relive any of Augusta's late game heroics search "augusta beats mason" on youtube. If you're a Panther fan, you just might get goosebumps.
