Joe Cocker Dead -- Dies From Lung Illness | TMZ.com

Joe Cocker -- the gravely-voiced singer known for his version of "With a Little Help From My Friends" -- died today after battling a lung illness ... according to his agent.

Cocker was reportedly at his home in Colorado when he passed away. He was 70 years old.

Cocker's cover of the Beatles 'Help From My Friends' made him an international superstar in 1968. He went on to have several other huge hits, like "You are So Beautiful" in 1975 -- and his duet with Jennifer Warnes ... "Up Where We Belong."

That song earned him a Grammy in 1983.

Boy, hate hearing this. RIP.

"You are so beautiful" reminds me of my parents slow dancing on Valentine's day in our living room when I was a little boy. Wish I could go back.

RIP Joe

When you talk about an artist with his very own style, Joe Cocker always came to mind.

I will always think of him whenever I listen to some of my old Beatles albums only because he was always one who could cover one of their songs and I couldn't pick which version I liked better. One of the last things I ever saw him in was the movie Across the Universe he played 3 different characters in the movie and sang a couple songs, but his version of Come Together in that movie was my favorite version of the song ever.

Sad news. I would have bet that Gordon Lightfoot would have gone before Joe.

...I've had the Joe Strummer channel on Pandora all day (died 12-22-02). Guess I'll switch it over to the Joe Cocker channel for now.

Another legend gone, soon we won't have anymore legends left because these last few years have produced nothing but crap.

He's had one foot in the grave for a few years now...

That one's my favorite Joe Cocker song. Although anyone who grew up watching The Wonder Years has some degree of affinity for "With A Little Help From My Friends".

...says you.

I always liked Joe. I loved his physicality when he sang. He put everything into it. He was sweaty when his set was finished. There was no phoniness or pretension in Joe. If I'm not mistaken, he was the person to whom the term "blue-eyed soul" was first applied. Part of my past is now gone. Rest in peace, Joe, you deserve it. Thank you for doing what you did. You helped define a generation.
