I'm torn on this issue. While on the surface it looks like it could be good for the Cuban people as a whole and introduce them to some modern western goods and political philosophies, we have to remember this country is tightly controlled by the government and one individual in particular. In essence, that means with this "normalizing" of relations, it helps the government and Castro as much and probably a lot more than it will the average citizen.

 

The other problem is, here goes the President again making decisions/policy/law that, from what I am hearing and reading, he doesn't have the power to make.

Again, full lifting of the embargo isn't going to immediately rectify human rights. Not sure who is arguing that point. Raul Castro and his regime have a long way to go before that happens.

 

However, this is a very important step and a basic free-market building block that is needed for the Cuban people that will grant them the power to undermine the regime.

 

If you're against the full lifting of the embargo, you don't understand how trade promotes freedom and development.

 

You can't argue for more human rights for the Cuban people and then impose harsh sanctions by limiting competition. The only group that helps and protects is the Cuban Communist regime.

I had mentioned above curiosity about Cuban Americans being opposed to Obama's move. I saw a poll this week that showed the opposition is from 65+year old Cuban Americans and the younger you go, the more Cuban Americans like this move.

 

As I continue to think this through, a simple question comes to mind. Will this move improve the lives of the people of Cuba? For those opposed, please tell me how this move will make things worse for the people of Cuba.

Second this move will give a brutal regime an influx of cash to support their evil communist government . They were on the path of bankruptcy and we jump in to save a brutal dictator who offers no concessions in return.

 

The real question is how this will benefit the Cuban people.

I'm guessing non-Cuban Latinos don't have this hight on their list of issues. Seems pretty obvious and "reasonable" to see that.
