Nothing like feeding into communist propaganda by our American leadership.

Cuban-Americans have been solidly GOP for years. Not so with other Florida residents whose roots are elsewhere in the Caribbean. After all these years, many Cuban-Americans no doubt would welcome the opportunity to freely travel to the island to reconnect with relatives.

 

Flights have been going to and from Havana and Tampa for a few years, now. Those deemed "Political Dissidents" are the only ones not allowed back in Cuba to see their families. That policy probably won't change with this event.

The US stance on Cuba has not worked for the 60 years or so that it has been ok place. It's time to move on, past time actually.

 

Plus, we got a US citizen back.

 

And they get billions in foreign aid, part of it paid for by those who risked their lives, and the lives of their families, to flee the oppressive Castro regime.

Does anyone have a link to perhaps a bullet-point list of what the provisions of this new agreement look like? Apart from a few things, I don't think I've seen a complete breakdown yet.

I think I stated I'm not for the China relations but I understand them. China is a global power, Cuba is not they offer nothing to us. I'd be fine with opening up talks the day the Castro family stepped down from power or any of the major allies.

 

It's almost hysterical how so much history is forgotten for some make believe feel good story of giving a brutual dictator a "shot".

 

Again Cuba leaders were out of money, the price of oil dropping had left them with no supporters. This was the time to break their government not help them.

Do you skip over the part in each of posts where I say I'm not happy with the relations with China? I've posted it now for the third time. All I said was as an adult while I don't agree with it I can understand it.

 

I would say part of the reason I hold them in even higher contempt has something to do with what they did to thousands of families who are now American citizens. I don't think those loyal americans should have to deal with giving aid to a government that killed and tortured their family.

 

As I said I'm not happy with some of our past relations but just because we made bad moves in the past doesn't give an excuse to make another today. That is insane logic.

 

If Cuba came out today and said they were not a communnist country anymore and want to work for democracy and they weren't going to torture citizens and they were going to hold free elections then I would say lets open up talks.

 

Instead we reward a country that has never stopped spying on us or committing acts of war. That is still committing human right violations and is a communist nation.

 

Just give me on example of how they have tried to bridge the gap between our nations. Instead we fullfilled their own prophecy that they could just wait America out continue with business as usual and some bleeding heart liberal would come along and act like it never happened.

Exactly. The only way this is a good thing is if you think American money should be used to help prop up an oppressive, brutal, communist regime.

Rand Paul is siding with Obama on Cuba. He continues to make moves that will make him the most viable Republican presidential candidate in a general election. Unfortunately for him, these moves hurt his chances at being nominated. That is the Republican catch 22 in presidential races. The far right has such a stronghold that when they nominate a candidate they think is too liberal, that candidate is still too far to the right for the general election. That is the hurdle Rand Paul will have to leap.

Since everyone considers me a right winger I have to say I don't consider him a disappointment at all. Sometimes I find myself in agreement with him, just not in this case. I think he's completely wrong on the Cuba.

I'm a Rand Paul fan. I'd vote for him. I don't agree with him on Cuba. Anyone who expects there candidate to agree with them 100% is living in a dream world or voting for a candidate who lies a lot.

 

With the stances Paul makes on every issue he seems like one of the more honest politicians in America. I know it doesn't say much but it is part of the reason I like him.

 

The Cuba ruling really doesn't matter at this point by Obama unless he is willing to give major concessions on a host of other issues to the GOP. Rubio isn't going to allow most of the goals with Cuba to be accomplished.
