There is nothing relevant between girls softball and 6A football. You criticize, but put nothing constructive on the table. Other than you famous scheduling arguments what would you do to improve the competitiveness of 6A programs? Have many times and you want to dismiss it. Sports are all related when you talk culture. What you do is different. How you do it can be exactly the same. Don't dismiss softball because of it not being important to you. We are talking athletes that changed the culture and became winners, period. A HUGE change in our culture was changing our schedule and making it one of the toughest in the state. Guess what happened, they absorbed what was really out there, dug in and worked harder, played the tough team close, started to believe they can compete and then competed and won against the best around. All in just two years. The schedule, the culture and the buy in by the kids were exactly the reason we turned it around. So I do offer suggestion, you just don't want to hear it. Challenging your kids everyday and in every game would surprise you on how fast they can improve. If their benchmark is other avg teams, then you are going to be average. Period.

And yes, have said many times. If you took over a NKY 6A program, the first thing I would do is call HHS, Cov Cath and a GCL school and start from there. And hopefully also add a super district team. Yes, I may go into the playoffs 6-4, but know my team is tested. I don't play for my record, I play to compete at the end.

All of the back and forth is irrelevant. Size is a necessary but not sufficient criterion for winning 6A. Kentucky does not have many schools that put the kind of effort into football that Trinity does. I can only think of one other school. They dominate the small school titles the way Trinity does the big school titles.

As for the plan...I have said part of it already regarding scheduling. Whether you want to believe it or not, it's a huge part of it and can expedite improvement. I would get in the community and energize at a very young age. I would put a training program in place that is very similar to HHS (don't underestimate that). I would challenge the kids in EVERY thing they do. I would preach constantly why we can compete. I would educate the parents and community on our plan and expectations.

 

You will say, "don't you think the current staffs are doing that". Sure they may be, but not sure at what level or engagement. And what are the commitment of the kids? I'm not saying any of the NKY coaches are not doing a great job. It's a lot more than just coaching in NKY. Its the NKY culture. I'm saying that if you want to compete and not just complain, it obviously needs a different level.

Then what's the difference? You still have Manual and Male. And if you're theory is true, where do you think all the athletes would end up...if they want to win a championship. Yep, Male and Manual!! That would easily be the path of least resistance!

Part of the culture is the community support as well and saying "we just will never beat them" is part of the culture that needs to change. I would NEVER let that come out of my mouth...ever. I don't care if I were playing a team of greek gods! But you hear it all the time in NKY.

You just don't want to hear it...that's the problem. Same as many. Why take it so personal? There are solutions, but you and others just dismiss it. What's your solution...business as usual...except for removing any competition. Or are you just here to complain that "it's not fair!"?
