Newport Central Catholic 64 Cooper 53

I thought the refs called a pretty good game. Consistent, got up and down the court w the players, in the right spot to make calls. No one will ever agree w every call, however I thought they were good.

I think McDonald did play well, however our key matchup for the spot was on the bench early with foul trouble. Had the refs been less touchy he may have had more competition. But what happened happened, I think if teams build a plan to stop their big three they could be beat.

Who was the key matchup?

Also---did Hawkins play for Cooper?

Size wise would be Colin Hathorn. Hawkins did play and did fairly well, he does lack the size to compare to a big like McDonald

Good test for both teams and I look for both to have something to say about the region. With that said I was not overly impressed with NCC as a 2/3 team in the entire State. Don't get me wrong they are good just don't see that level of dominance.

A lot has been said about Pangallo being in foul trouble but in no way was that bigger than Hathorn being strapped with foul problems. He had 2 fouls in the first and sat the entire 2nd and picked up his 3rd early in the 3rd. Additionally, Dickerson was in fouls trouble as well so that forced Cooper to play relatively small the entire game and they still were down by 1pt at the start of the 4th. Hawkins did ok but he was too light in the rear to hold the NCC bigs.

Again, NCC did what they needed to do to win and they are a good team but this game could have went either way. This is Coach Sully's longest team and in the end may end up being his best. Cooper is going to surprise some teams this year.

A beast,,,,you must be easily excited,,he didn't effect me that way..

You obviously didn't watch the same game everyone else was watching. McNeil will be one of the best in NKY by the time this season is over and will be one of if not the best player to wear a Cooper uniform. Probably the purest shot in NKY and contributes in all facets of the game.

You're being kind to others. No "probably" about it.

Agreed completely.

I'm trying to get a North Laurel- Cooper match up in next year's Legacy Nissan Classic. Have already talked to both coaches about it.

Would love to see McNeil v Broughton and Hendrix/Kunkel against their stud 8th grade pg Adam Sizemore...who is going to end up being a lot like Braxton Beverly when he gets to his sophomore year.

Same event that Apollo and Taylor Co will meet in next year. (Goodin v Wright)

What is your role?

I agree. Hated to see the bigs for Cooper get in foul trouble thought they did a good job with the bigs for NCC. I would say that the Weyer kid was the better of the 2 that night. The young man plays extremely hard. I don't remember him coming out of the game at all until each team cleared the benches. I am not saying McDonald is not skilled just IMO Weyer looked the best..splitting hairs.

Either way NCC is very good. Cooper came to play and gave NCC all they wanted for 3+ quarters. Both these teams will be hard to beat as the season goes on.

This was a great early season game. Cooper atmosphere is always great. Their fans really come out and support their team as does CCH and NCC.

Agreed completely.

Is Adam Sizemore starting for North Laurel?

What is your role?

Must be the promoter..

Was talking to someone that was at the game and they joked with me that the PA from the game must not have heard the new KHSAA rules.

Anyone there know what he was talking about?

Is Adam Sizemore starting for North Laurel?

Not starting but seeing quality minutes off the bench.
