I think a 3 class system is right for the state of Kentucky.

 

That would mean 70 schools in each class. 70 is less than other states.

 

You would have teams with huge enrollment discrepancies at the top and bottom of each class.

 

The enrollment range per class in Ky is similar to surrounding states.

In the finals we have 3 teams from Western Ky., 3 teams from Eastern Ky., 3 teams from Northern Ky., and 3 teams from Louisville. Have 9 publics and 3 privates. Have first-timers (Graves Co., Pulaski Co.) and several old traditional matchups (Belfry-Central; NewCath-Desales; Mayfield; Trinity). We had some blowout semis, and we had several very hard fought nail-biter semis. Class system working as it should?

Pulaski isn't a first timer. The we're in title game last year.

It isn't that hard to understand. Some like their playoffs like they like their orange juice - concentrated. Others realize that the greatest run in their school history only happened because they were able to "avoid" certain teams. Refresh my memory HB would Cooper have been on the same side of the bracket in 3A with Highlands or 4A with Trinity in 2012 if there were just 4 classes? I guess that is just rethorical and really doesn't matter. :banana:

I think 5 classes is the best option with approx. 44-45 in each class. I'd also like to see the 8 #1 seeds earn a 1st round bye and take the top 2 from each district plus 8 at large teams making the playoffs. Some districts are much tougher than others and deserve to have 3 or maybe even 4 in the playoffs, while others only have 1 or 2 decent teams and getting 2 in from that district is all that's deserved. This would eliminate the winless or 1 or 2 win teams, which I think is a good idea. I would also like to see some sort of formula put into place where the top performing teams, maybe top 10%, in a certain class over a period of 3 or 4 years get bumped to the next class up while the lower performing teams in a particular class get moved down a class.

One of the stated goals of moving to 6 classes when it was discussed at the original BOC discussion on the issue was diversity.

First off, I don't even know what class Cooper would have been in in 2012 if it were 4 classes. Secondly what are you trying to say? Cooper just so you know only lost 1 game the entire year heading in to,the state title game. They were 13-1 at that point. Are you saying they wouldn't have even made it to the playoffs that year if it were 4 class system? They were probably the 3rd best team in the state that year (Trinity, BG, Cooper) and that is including Highlands, so your assumption that Cooper didn't deserve to be there that year is stupid and garbage. Last I checked Cooper didn't "Avoid" anybody and p,ayed the best team in the entire state in the title game where they were supposed to lose by 5+ TD's yet only lost by 14 and where it was only a 1 score difference into the 4th qtr. So do me a favor, don't throw the hiding garbage out there when you have no idea what you are talking about.

 

Btw, Cooper is playing Highlands the next couple,years at least, talk about avoiding teams, when was the last time Highlands played the top teams in the state like Trinity or X or Male or BG? Talk about hiding from competition.

Interesting you would comment that Highlands hasn't played Trinity or X or BG. Based upon your analysis Elder or Cincinnati St. X or CC of Miami, Fla., wouldn't qualify as quality opponents? I dare say any of those 3 would be prohibitive favorites over Cooper. I would go so far as to say CC would compete very well against the KY "big 4". Like every school at every level Highlands plays district opponents and therefore cannot schedule only 6A schools as it seems you are advocating. My last comment is you cannot question the success of Highlands particularly where they play out of class size, a couple of opponents, every year and continue to add to their state championship runs.
