I was very disappointed with Darius Miller. I think he is a very overrated player. He tryed to force way to much, and wasnt taking care of the ball when he was out on the floor.

If you watch him play all year, trust me, you'll see hes not overrated.

Graves Co- Either the big boy, Cavette- an extremely great passer and

finisher around the basket with a nice built body (6'6'', 260) but

his downfall is his attitude- or the piont guard Simms-he hit very

many big shots down the stretch and was the only person that

could handle the ball

Christian Co.- did not see them play, but I heard they were VERY athletic but

lacking the shooting touch

Apollo-Either Doug Denton-handled the ball extremely well throughout the

tournament and hit many big 3's or Tyler Brown-who was a consistent

scorer throughout the tournament

Warren Central-Jeremy Anderson has one of the smoothest shots in the state

-WC's offense creates many good lucks for him because they

are continually moving without the ball

John Hardin- Had a very good player in Maze Stallworth from what I've seen

before the state tournament. Maybe a disappointment versus

South Laurel.

PRP- Undoubtedly Vincent Crutcher- he was dominant the whole tournament

and scored at will. The charge call against him at the end of the Apollo

game was horrible. That became his fifth foul, gave Apollo the ball, and

if the layup would have counted, it would have been a 1 point game.

Jtown-I was very impressed with Ceedrick Ware, he was the only consistent

scorer along. Thomas Coleman may be big, but he has a horrible set

of hands. He didn't do much until the Championship game (way to step

up)

Shelby Co.-AJ Slaughter had his way all game. I was impressed with his

defensive quickness.

Cov Cath-Todd Jacobs was a leader on the floor that hit the open looks. He

has a very nice shot.

Mason Co.-Micah Turner showed up throughout tournament. During the

season, he was not known to hit the three, but he sure hit them

during the tournament.

Madison Central-The general on the floor for the Indians was the quick point

guard Andrew Mathis. He pushed the ball up the floor at

every opportunity and made things happen.

Boyle County- Brian Staed had Boyle's first nine points and was very solid in

middle. Needs to work on his conditioning and mobility.

South Laurel- Ty Proffitt hit big shot after big shot in this game. He was the

general on the floor. I bet he wishes he could have that last

shot back in overtime because it was not a good one.

Hazard- Didn't see much standout talent because of the whooping Madison

Central put on them but Justin Hicks was probably their best player.

Johnson Central-Did not see them play

Russel-Did not see them play. I would guess that Jon VanHoose was their

best player.

I only saw three teams - Mason County, Warren Central and Apollo.

 

Mason County - Mikah Turner deserved his all-tourney selection with his play this week. Was he Mason's best/most talented player all year? No, that was Darius Miller - but Mikah was the Royals' best player on Thursday and Friday.

 

Warren Central - Jeremy Anderson; kept the Dragons in the game with his long-range shooting.

 

Apollo - Tyler Brown, although a case could be made for Denton, the point guard who frustrated Mason with his ball-handling.

Well I will say that there were several very good players on different teams, I did see one that stuck out as, although not as talented as some, was playing about as hard as anyone. I believe his number was 50 for Graves Co. and maybe his name was Jamie King (I think). He was all over the floor, getting a real "taste" of Rupp as he was diving after loose balls, getting pushed around a lot and never backed down. He had a very good game in the defeat of South Laurel and may have been the player of the game. I will say he did not mind getting the bumps and knots that come with the game. Tough kid...

I was really impressed with Brown from Apollo, considering he is only a soph.

 

 

I agree, Denson was good, but I thought Brown carried them for most of the games I saw. Can't believe he's just a sophmore.

Shelby County's Slaughter was the best player I saw all week.

And the Rockets had the 2nd best team in the tournament. Too bad they had to play Jeffersontown in the quarterfinals.

I agree completely... After JH lost to SL I was fairly sure that the championship game was to be played between Shelby and J'town in the quarters...

I don't at all think Darius Miller is overrated. As a matter of fact, I feel he was far and away the best future prospect in this year's Sweet Sixteen. He seems to be a passive player who needs to work on being consistently aggressive throughout the game.

 

And then, the sky is the limit.

 

 

P.S. Maybe Chris Loften can help Darius mentally get to the top. Chris

certainly would be a fine mentor for Darius.

Well done summary.

 

I really like the potential of Tyler Brown. He has an excellent shot and jumps very well. He is a very poor ballhandler at this point of his career, but that is one of the easiest things to work on. Big upside for this sophomore.
