Top Teams in 2007

Shelby County? What do they have now that Slaughter is gone? I know they have some big bodies down low, but do they have any guards?

I think if Eugene Wade developes a offensive game over the summer they will be a tough out in the 8th region!!!

Warren Central loses their starting center T.J. Woodard, and a mid-season addition as starter in Quentin Curry, but nothing else. Woodard is the only significant loss from this team. They'll be back.

Watch for a very good young team from JUNE BUCHANAN. They will be playing in the 5th/3rd,wymt,and possibly King of the Bluegrass. This is a very young and talented team that could turn the tide for mountains schools. They have Stepp and Cox at guards and big size inside.

Come on June Buchanan will be good next year and could possibly win the 14th but they are not going to be the best team in the state next year.

With Britt, Anderson, & Hood in the mix for Warren Central they will be right behind Scott Co. for the top team coming into next year!

Aren't they always?

South Laurel will be loaded again.

They lose Walt Allen, but they return the core of their team with Ty Proffitt, Trey Smith, Jordan Hammonds, and a plethora of talented subs returning. They need 3 players to step up, but I think with Wright as their coach they can definantly find 3 players.

That is true. I have seen those kids play since middle school and most in this part of the state felt they would compete for a state title by the time they were seniors. So far, they have 3 appearances, 1 state title, and 1 elite 8. I can't see them being anything but a top 10 team again in 2007.

No offense but the 8th Region is rather weak and even if Wade doesnt develop an offensive game they will still win the 8th most likely

16th region could make some noises next year. The 2 finalist from this years region finals, Elliott Co. (runner up) and Russell (champion) return almost all of their firepower.

You never know about Holmes, they do have the talent in place to definitely make it to Rupp next season!! I wouldn't count out Highlands either they always reload!!

I agree with you on one out of the two posts.

Holmes, the past 2 years and next year included, possesses the best talent in the 9th region. Now, they do not play like a team, so they are like Michigan State in this respect. You never know which team will show up.

And second, I don't remember Highlands ever reloading... after the Neltner days, they have been a pretty poor/average team, and this year had the season they have been waiting for. But I will say that the future looks bright for them.

No 9th region team belongs in a top team in the state thread. Highlands went 8 deep this year. 6 leave to graduation, leaving two Jr guards as the only players that have any experience at all. No way are they a "top team" next year.

The thread was not for the best team in the state just some top teams.

The problem with holmes is thier players on thier team are selfish. They usually dont play with a team. But when they do they could win the state title they have tons of talent. Cov Cath should come back strong with them having players in the jr divison next year. The jv team won region this year(without a competiton)

Look for Scott Co to be ranked among the nation. As far as the 11th it will once again boast five strong teams. Mad Central will be there again if they can produce a solid point gaurd they have one of the states best inside games for next year. Bryan Station returns Mack and Thomas and thats enough to make you contender. With Lex. Catholics Novesel and Roberts as well as some good young gaurds they will be in the hunt. Henry Clay will still be tough with Boyd and Moses and Bowman. Dunbar loses all its size but will have a great pair of gaurds. Man I already miss it.

Scott County will probably have the best 1 - 2 punch in the state. Only a Junior and a Soph I believe this year is scary...

1) Clark County

2) Mason County

Darkhorse: Pendleton County.
