thsrocks Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Dave Cantrall’s ratings for the final four football playoffs: CLASS A Mayfield (12-1) 80.4 Beechwood (11-2) 76.9 Williamsburg (13-0) 65.4 Raceland (11-2) 62.5 Mayfield at Beechwood Williamsburg at Raceland CLASS 2A DeSales (12-1) 79.7 Murray (9-4) 71.1 Newport Central Catholic (7-5) 59.3 Shelby Valley (11-2) 43.6 Murray at DeSales NewCath at Shelby Valley CLASS 3A South Warren (13-0) 75.2 Belfry (11-2) 73.4 Central (9-4) 71.1 Russell (11-2) 53.8 South Warren at Central Russell at Belfry CLASS 4A Highlands (11-2) 85.9 North Oldham (10-2) 78.8 Lexington Catholic (10-3) 74.9 Owensboro (11-2) 71.4 Owensboro at North Oldham Lexington Catholic at Highlands CLASS 5A Cooper (9-4) 81.0 Pulaski County (11-2) 80.7 Graves County (10-3) 78.7 John Hardin (7-6) 66.0 Graves County at John Hardin Cooper at Pulaski County CLASS 6A Trinity (8-5) 90.7 Dixie Heights (12-1) 88.1 Meade County (11-2) 82.1 Ballard (10-3) 81.7 Trinity at Meade County Ballard at Dixie Heights
tcjkbt Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 6A appears to be the most tightly bunched. DeSales and Highlands are the two most favored.
mcpapa Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 A quick calculation (could be wrong). Average Cantrell rating for the semifinalists of each class: 1A - 71.3 2A - 63.4 3A - 68.4 4A - 77.8 6A - 76.6 6A - 85.7

At this point there is no question who the weakest class is and it is neither 3A or 2A. It's clearly 5A... From weakest to strongest IMHO: 5A 3A 2A 1A 4A 6A
FanofMany Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Is the averaging the final foul the fair way to do the assessment? 2A, 3A and 5A have one that is definately an outlier compared to the other 3. In 1A, the east is significantly lower than the west.

LCDAWGS19 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Would love to see the games if they reseeded by ratings.

From weakest to strongest IMHO: 5A 3A 2A 1A 4A 6A Interesting sidenote: 1A Mayfield beat both the 2A semi finalist (Murray) and the 5A Semifinalist (Graves) during the regular season this year. I agree that 5A is the weakest by far.

Hellbird Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) Interesting sidenote: 1A Mayfield beat both the 2A semi finalist (Murray) and the 5A Semifinalist (Graves) during the regular season this year. I agree that 5A is the weakest by far. And Cooper beat 2A semi finalist NCC, and had a running clock on them. So are you saying Mayfield is weak? Or do you think like I do that they are like Highlands in their class and can compete with most teams no matter what class? Using Mayfield is like me using Highlands and saying every class is weak because they beat everyone in all classes in KY they played. I will leave it at this. Cooper has won 2 regional titles in 3 years and gave BG their closest game in the finals in the midst of their streak. I just don't like any talk about weak class because every class is basically the same. They all (except for 6A) have 1 or 2 teams top that will win and all others usually have no chance. 1A has Beechwood and Mayfield, that's it. 2A has NCC (which by the way went winless this year until they reached district play, yet they are in the semis and 5A is the weak class?) 3A Belfry and ? 4A Highlands 5A BG and about 4 others tied for 2nd 6A T, X, Male So to say any class is weakest is ignoring the facts. Give you an example, Cooper who is 5A beat 2 6A teams and every team from every other class they played except for 1 game against 5A So Oldham who was 1seed in their district. Trinity alum Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Interesting that the lowest rated team in 6A is rated higher than 19 of the 20 teams from the other classes.
Hellbird Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Interesting that the lowest rated team in 6A is rated higher than 19 of the 20 teams from the other classes. Which is the point I just made. Aside from 6A, all the other classes are basically the same which is dominated most years by only 1 or 2 teams.
