I did not see PRP's semi-final loss. PRP Coach Dale Mabrey, who evidently does not have a reputation for being a whiner, is quoted in The Courier Journal as very strongly questioning the last 3 fouls on Crutcher and their timing. Does he have a valid point?

It seems to me that Louisville is only claimed by much of the rest of the state on the first Saturday in May.

I was sitting on the end where PRP was shooting the 2nd half. Crutcher got called for a hook and 2 charges I believe in the late 3rd and 4th quarter. The 3rd and 4th foul which I believe was a charge and a hook(as hook I mean that he took the arm that he didn't have the ball in and hooked it around the defender as he was going toward the basket). I thought those 2 fouls were good calls as Crutcher did foul both times. The 5th call was a charge that was questionable IMO and I don't think it should have been called.

 

Crutcher is a warrior down low...is he a senior this season and does/did he play football at PRP?

where's Apollo? Isn't it a Louisville school? The Sweet 16 sucked this year, everyone played not to lose. which was kind of cool, but other than that and the Covington Catholic fan section, the sweet 16 sucked, IMO.

PRP has a legitimate complaint. This was the only game of the tournament where the officiating became the focal point of the game. Crutcher's second foul was ridiculous, as he had position on the block and was straight up. The Apollo player may have been fouled, but any contact was from the player doubling down. The 3rd foul (a charge) was a call that was not made any other point in the tournament (which for the most part was very loosely officiated). There was no "displacement" of the defensive player. The 4th foul (another offensive foul---a hook) was a legit call. The 5th foul was perhaps the worst call of the entire tournament. Crutcher drives to the basket to cut the Apollo lead to two. He's called for a charge. The player was under the basket and was not even squared up to the contact. Why in the 14th game of the tournament does the style of officiating change?

I was not going to the game tonight regardless of who was playing but I did go to the session this morning. During the Apollo/PRP game I heard several people say that if PRP won the 2nd game that they would not be attending the championship game to watch two Louisville teams play. I like to see regions 13-16 do good and I have found myself rooting for the 11th region a lot lately also. Besides that I could care less what teams are playing for the title.

 

During the Graves/Jtown game the whole arena was rooting for Graves County, besides the Charger fans and it was the same way for the 2nd game with the crowd getting pretty loud for Apollo in the 4th quarter.[/QUOTE]

 

Maybe it had to do with Louisville, but isn't it also true that traditionally State Tournament crowds tend to root for the underdog once their team has been eliminated. Clearly Grave and Apollo were considered the underdogs in this game. Isn't that why everyone thinks the Sweet Sixteen is so great, and doesn't want to concede to classification in Basketball. Everyone is hoping for another Cuba or Carr Creek. Right.

Yea It was a conspiricy, thats why the officials made sure that all of Apollo's post players were in foul trouble by the end of the 1st quarter. That way it would be real easy for them to win. I'm not sure that Tyler Brown (their best scorer) got to play much more than 10 minutes the entire game due to fouls. He did pick up his 4th with about 6:30 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The officials were clearly trying to give Apollo the game.

Good point and I agree...I say it was a combo of both but I didn't think about the underdog factor.
