I have often wondered that myself especially here recently. They are recruiting from B1G areas. Are the players they are taking from those areas more meant for a B1G offense scheme as opposed to the up tempo style that Brown wants to run at UK.

I think it depends on what position, ol and dl would be fine for the most part.

Have I said anywhere that he only recruits Ohio? No. Not once. I said he is using Ohio as his base because he has said as much himself since getting the job' date=' and the state they are landing the most kids from is.......you guessed it...... Ohio. You know what B1G teams do? Recruit their base Midwest state and try to add some speed from the south to compliment the base. That is what UK is doing to a tee at the moment. I don't see it ever working in the SEC. I'm done here...[/quote']

I believe he said he would start with developing a pipeline from Ohio. I don't believe he ever said it would be his be all end all solution to sustaining a program in the SEC. Do you really think a first time head coach was going to come into Kentucky and recruit with the best in the SEC? I expect you know better than that.

Where is Stoops from? Where does he have the best relationships with the high school coaches? Ohio is his base. You think that he is going to do something to drastically change that. I don't. Again. I'm done here...

Your partially right.. He is from Ohio, as is a few of his staff. So obviously he is going to work the state of Ohio, that just makes sense if your a virgin coach with Ohio roots.. What you are failing to mention is his connections in the south, he was a great recruiter at FSU. Who is FSU, you ask, just a little football school in Florida, which you guessed it, pulls most of their recruits from the south.

I don't give a rats butt where he gets the recruits from as long as they are good enough... and more importantly can the staff develop the talent, get the most out of them, put them in position to succeed, and have the coaches demand excellence from the players and themselves!

Same debate I've seen for what seems to be decades. Is a 6 or 7-win bowl-eligible squad good enough? If not, what needs to be done?

Seems simple to me. Recruit and retain players that are on the radar of the Georgias, Alabamas and Auburns of the world. Heck, Mississippi State seems to have found a way.

didnt Alabama want Ellam and didn't SC want Barker?

Also, some other SEC schools wanted them.

Yes and yes.. OSU didn't want them thiugh so your talking to the wall.

Both were very important in state recruits to keep home. KY isn't exactly a football hot bed, so keeping the elite kids home at a high clip is a must...

Agree. Really need to get Harris. Will be a good get.

I will say over the last 5 years though NKY does seem to be a hotbed of DI QB's. As I posted in the Beau Hoge thread, NKY not even going back to the Lorenzen days, but just the last 5 years has produced 8 DI QB's, not too shabby.

Zeke Pike -Auburn

Patrick Towels - UK

Conner Hemple - Harvard

Blake Bir - Dayton

Drew Barker - UK

Beau Hoge - BYU

* B Kuntz - WKU

** S Collier - Ohio State

* DI offer but turned it down

** Grew up in Boone Co. But moved in High School to Georgia

And UK kept the two best in state. I don't have a problem with what Stoops has done in the state of KY. I simply think building a foundation for an SEC program by recruiting the second tier of kids in Ohio is a mistake. No more, no less...

Since I've been pulled back in to this thread once again, I'll simply say thanks for making my point. You know why he didn't recruit Ohio kids (his base) to FSU? There wasn't many kids good enough to play at that level that he could land. Only one I can think of is Tank Caradine who had some big red flags on his resume, but was a monster on the field.

If over time he is landing more kids from the south than he is from Ohio, I'll gladly credit him for changing his philosophy. Right now he is recruiting at UK in a B1G fashion. Simply calling it as I see it...

I believe I read somewhere that UK has shifted some and is now recruiting more kids along the Atlantic coast. Supposedly, there is a big dip in talent all throughout the midwest the next couple of years, OH, IN and IL.

Nor sure if that is true, but I thought I read there are more 4-5 star kids in Virginia than in OH, IL, IN combined or something like that.

Virginia has been emerging on the recruiting scene quite a bit. If UK is going that route and can land some of their priority guys away from the ACC and SEC I think the path to rebuilding will be much easier...
