November 17, 201411 yr In 2012, there were over 100 Ohio kids on NFL rosters. Ohio State can't get them all. I understand what Gametime is saying about speed being in the south, but there are plenty of SEC caliber kids in Ohio. Ohio is a natural recruiting base for Kentucky. Many Ohioans have parents or grandparents who migrated to the north for jobs in the 1950's and 1960's. The entire state of Ohio is within that magical 6 hour radius of UK's campus. Coach Stoops and staff can go into homes and sell some of these top tier Ohio kids into playing in the SEC. Coach Stoops does get it. Talk to him about recruiting for five minutes and you will quickly understand how well he gets it. Contrary to what Gametime thinks about Kentucky recruiting Ohio and not being able to win in the SEC with the sprinkle of Ohio kids along with a few Kentucky SEC caliber kids, as well as recruits from a few other states, is just not accurate. The road for Kentucky to be successful in SEC football is a long and hard one. Coach Stoops has a nice blueprint he is following to maximize his chances of being successful at UK. Ohio is in his blueprint. Whether or not it will work, remains to be seen, but its failure won't be because Kentucky can't win with good Ohio kids.
November 17, 201411 yr Since I've been pulled back in to this thread once again, I'll simply say thanks for making my point. You know why he didn't recruit Ohio kids (his base) to FSU? There wasn't many kids good enough to play at that level that he could land. Only one I can think of is Tank Caradine who had some big red flags on his resume, but was a monster on the field. If over time he is landing more kids from the south than he is from Ohio, I'll gladly credit him for changing his philosophy. Right now he is recruiting at UK in a B1G fashion. Simply calling it as I see it... Do you really think while stepping his foot in the door he could sway the kids your talking about to come to UK? I'm a UK fan and even I don't believe he could do that. He did do the smart think, which is recruit Ohio heavily along with the top talent in Kentucky, peppered with some good prospects from the South. To expect a fresh coach at Kentucky to come in and hand pick who he wants from the south is borderline insane.
November 17, 201411 yr Virginia has been emerging on the recruiting scene quite a bit. If UK is going that route and can land some of their priority guys away from the ACC and SEC I think the path to rebuilding will be much easier... That's the thing you don't seem to acknowledge. UK has been recruiting kids from all over, not jist Ohio and Kentucky.

Reality is between 2014 and the commits for 2015 41% are from Ohio. That isn't a sprinkle, it is a landslide compared to any other state they recruit. Reality. They are very rarely going to beat Ohio State for the top 5 kids in the state. From there they battle with Michigan State, Notre Dame, Michigan and a sprinkling of a few others for the best of the rest. Your Ohio kids in the NFL number looks great until it is compared to the reality of UK building 40% of their roster off the second tier of kids from Ohio. It is simply a poor way to build an SEC roster, and that will play itself out going forward if the philosophy doesn't shift...

Of those 100+ kids from Ohio in the NFL, how many do you think were top-tier kids in Ohio out of high school. I am too lazy to do the homework to answer my own question, but my guess would be about 20-25%. That would mean there would be 75 to 80% of these players from Ohio on NFL rosters who were not that highly regarded out of high school. If they are on an NFL roster, does that mean they were SEC caliber players. I say YES! This is why I think sprinkling in Ohio kids on the Kentucky roster is a very positive thing.

Have a nice night... You keep saying the same thing over and over. I even acknowledged that Stoops is hitting Ohio hard. But I also mentioned that he is in position to pull kids from Ohio, given that is where he and some staff members are from. However, he is not in a position to pull 4* star athletes from Florida, Georgia and other southern states at this time. Once he establishes the program using Ohio as a base, it would potentially open up recruitment of high level talent in the south. Why is that so hard to comprehend?

If he was "sprinkling in" Ohio kids I would be in full agreement. He is flooding the roster with them. A roster most watching feel lacks any level of depth across the board. That issue will continue if the recruiting focus doesn't shift south and the focus on Ohio does actually become the "sprinkle" you claim...

That issue will continue if the recruiting focus doesn't shift south and the focus on Ohio does actually become the "sprinkle" you claim... What other state do you expect him to flood the roster with at this point in the process? New Hampshire? I imagine Florida and the likes are a bit out of reach until they make a couple of bow games. But there I go thinking logically again....
November 17, 201411 yr Thoughts on Timmons? He made a huge catch on 3rd down... looked hard to make, I think the pressure of being "replaced" was accepted. Next year this guy will be a stud.
November 17, 201411 yr They look like the ridiculously young and inexperienced team that they are. Nothing left. They play this UT team after the South Carolina game......different story. Beaten up mentally and physically. It happens. They're kids. Most of the guys they are counting on were playing in their respected HS playoffs last year. Fact is this....they beat who they were supposed to beat. UT-Martin, Louisiana-Monroe, Ohio, South Carolina and a Florida team that is an unfortunate train wreck when you consider the talent they have. I called four wins going into the year. They have passed that up. If they somehow beat Louisville, those that only see blue need appreciate everything about this year. Personally, I think it's been a great year.

So senior year they should be better? Towles-Senior Timmons-Senior Kemp-Senior Boom Williams-Junior Bone-Junior G Johnson-Junior Offense will be mature But what about the DEFENSE? That is giving up 50+, 60+ points?

I will agree that UK played great against the Gamecocks. But I think the Ole Ball Coach out coached himself - UK hadnt stopped the run all night and USC for some reason started throwing the ball every down the last two possessions. They keep running it they win that game.
