The TO which negated the three unfortunately turned out to be the play of the game. CovCath kind of melted away after that.

 

You're right, but it shouldn't have been. Check that - it did not HAVE to be. Sure, it was unfortunate, but the attitude of some of the players after that disappointed me. There was still plenty of time left (heck, CCH had the ball down 3 with 17 seconds to go...). I think CCH got caught up in the moment and brokedown some. Disappointing to see, but understandable. It's not every day that these young men play on such a big stage - hopefully the underclassmen will remember the feeling & capitalize next year, if they get the opportunity.

He did come up with the biggest rebound of the game though, which came from the missed FT when Apollo was up 3. That, IMO, was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Listerman did the same thing three years ago at an Elder game. Called timeout from the bench as CovCath was making a layup. The layup was waved off and the timeout awarded.

Both teams made 22 FG's. Apollo took 39 shots, CovCath took 60. The Colonels just flat out didn't shoot well today. Bad shooting and out rebounded, and still only lost by four. That shows the potential this team had. But it wasn't meant to be this season.

Hats off to Tim T. Stepping in and replacing POY (and according to Coach L "the best PG ever at CCH") Matt Nestheide was not a task for the faint of heart. Add in that in his JR year, he had 2 top PGs in his own district and he was the "rook".

 

2 seasons later, he has proven to many (on here at least) that not only can he play, he is a top PG in NKY. I love when kids prove critics like many of us wrong.

I still say CCH is the favorite in the 9th for 06-07.

Did you follow CCH at all? They were destroying teams in the tournament. One poor game, losing by only 4, and all of a sudden they are overrated? That is a misinformed statement at best.

 

#1 was high for them, but they were still good. They were most likely a top 4 or 5 team that would contend.

Did anyone else besides me notice that Tierney looked like Nestheide on the jumbotron at times? CCH and Holmes will battle next year for #1, but to be honest I cannot wait to see the sophomore class at CCH when they are seniors. They have 4 excellent players in Bondick, Grimes, Schmerge and Roll. Add Aaron Noll, freshmen(will be juniors) Luke Maile and Matt Shover and you have one hell of a ballclub. If newcomer Clay Lampl comes around, I'd watch out for CCH in 2008.

Tim Tierney was not "a" top PG in NKY this year...he was THE top PG in NKY. There wasn't a game I went to that I wasn't impressed by his overall play and leadership. A great player and great kid. Looking forward to see where he plays his college ball.

Apollo outshoot CCHS 56 % to 36%.

 

Apollo outrebounded CCHS 35 -26

 

Each school finished with 12 assist.

 

Apollo had around 25 turnovers for the game, but was able to overcome this due to poor shooting for CCHS and winning the battle on the boards.

 

 

If these stats are accurate, I have to ask how can a team turn the ball over 25 times in the state tournament and win? I know CovCath shot poorly and was outrebounded. But if you force 25 turnovers in 32 minutes, what causes a loss?
