We are having our annual discussion about the playoff system in another thread. I will leave that discussion there. But it made me take a look at all the #4 seeds who might win a game in round 1. Here is my list of potential winners. Look them over and share your thoughts. Vote in the poll for the number of #4 seeds you think will get a win in round 1.

Class 1A

None - I see no #4 seeds here that can get a win.

Class 2A

Washington County at Glasgow

Somerset at Shelby Valley

Class 3A

West Carter at Garrard County

Sheldon Clark at Magoffin County

Class 4A

None

Class 5A

Conner at Franklin County

Madison Southern at Letcher Co. Central

Class 6A

Manual at McCracken County

Campbell County at Lafayette

There are see other #4 seeds that have .500 or better records but I don't see them having much of a chance at getting a round 1 win. Those are:

Hancock Co. 5-5 at Caldwell County

Betsy Layne 6-4 at Danville

Casey County 5-5 at Louisville Central

Western Hills 5-5 at Russell

Who and how many #4 over #1 seed upsets do you see?

Likely:

Sheldon Clark over Magoffin County

Manual over McCracken Co

Madison Southern over Letcher Central (if Harris plays)

Conner and Campbell County neither would I consider a major upset

Somerset over Shelby Valley would surprise me, but I think could be a possibility

Which teams are the 4 seeds?

Is Lafayette the 4 seed or is Campbell County?

Madison County is a 4 seed also aren't they? I believe Damien Harris returns for them this week.

Conner/Franklin County is another I need confirmation on as well.

There are some good first round matchups on Friday.

Since 1 seeds should be at home I would guess the team hosting is the 1 seed!

Excellent point. Oops. :lol2:

I have 4 teams winning.

Manual, Somerset, Conner and Madison Southern.

I have Madison Southern, Sheldon Clark, Somerset, Manual, and Conner winning.

I don't think Manual can get past the bus ride. That's way out of their comfort zone.

Is Nero playing?

I've heard he's dressed for practices but IMVHO it's pushing it after ACL surgery.

Class 3A

West Carter at Garrard County

Would be floored if this took place.

As would I, gchs_uk9. West Carter has much more speed on this team than the last time they visited Garrard in the playoffs, but I don't think they are as physical. If Garrard can match up on the outside and make their reads against the read option attack of the Comets they will be just fine.

This thread is a prime example of why our system is fine. There will be blowouts but there may also be upsets, and in some cases the upset will be likely.
