Proud of St. Henry tonight. They went in as clear underdogs, but never gave up, and emerged the Champs. I was standing directly opposite the St. Henry goalie and did not see the gesture you speak of. That's not saying he did not do it, and he was probably reacting to some of the foul language directed at him at times. Not from the happy chanting, but in an undertone that most people wouldn't hear unless they were close enough. However, let's not stoop to name calling and calling out the kids. It was a great game, for both the spectators and players. Good luck to St. Henry as they go forward, and congrats to Cov Cath on a great season.

 

I do not believe I did any name calling, as for calling out the kids, I feel that they are responsible for their behavior while they are on the field and I do not feel this was acceptable behavior. You will notice that I did speak of some saves he made and how well he played, I would just like to see him go about it in a more positive manner.

If it was being done, as you said, in an undertone that most people could not hear than I do not think the goalie would have heard it either.

Well done Cru, the keepers for each team played ok, the pace of the game was fast and furious

I did see the keeper show the finger, I'm not a St. Henry fan but Cov Cath cheering section does tend to taunt people. They were riding that kid pretty hard. The keep needs to learn to keep his head and just prove himself with his actions.

Cov Cath let YET another title slip away, when will they realize that club coaching is not the answer......

You can't treat high school soccer like club soccer, it has to be different. It's a different game played against different level of competition. These teams were in no way equal, Cov Cath had much more talent on the pitch. St. Henry played with heart and figured out a way to win. Cov Cath had this game won if they would have changed tactics up 3-1, go defensive and don't send 8 guys forward. The colonels were the most talented soccer team in NKY and were beat by a team that played harder and adjusted to win the game.

1. St Henry won. They were not suppose to. They never are suppose to win when they play CCH.

2. St Henry IS a good team. They had a rough start to the season. But they are a very good, well coached team.

3. St Henry has a lot of talent. At least 5 players at the elite club level, the rest play on other soccer club teams.

4. Why is it that when Cov Cath took their PK's, the stadium was politely silent, but when St Henry took their PK's, all the crazies were screaming the "He's scared, he's shaking"? Never mind, apparently it did not affect the outcome of the game.

5. St Henry won. They were not suppose to win.

On a different note: the guy who did the announcing at the game was an embarrassment. They should at least have someone who is somewhat interested in the game doing it. He called the wrong name for players coming on the pitch, and at least twice called the wrong name for players who scored. He even awarded a goal to a kid who wasn't on the field at the time it was scored.

Exactly. Up 3-1, both CCH center mids and for that matter, the outside mids, continued to push forward as if they were losing instead of up 3-1. Really perplexing. A lot of mistakes made on the CCH side like that but the wide open looks they had in the first half and early in the second half were the main culprit. Not a huge surprise really.

I was really pleased to see how hard SH continued to fight although CCH was dominating them at times tonight... this took a lot of heart. I was really disappointed by the actions of the SH keeper, although I thought he played a GREAT match, what I will remember most is his behavior.

After watching that game, in that atmosphere, that is your gripe? Honestly if he did a bad job I couldn't tell you. I really didn't listen to him or notice him - and that is a good thing.

The wind aided Cru in 2nd half, CCH missed at least 2 wide open easy goals in each half, the announcer was a non-factor, and the Cru goalie absolutely flipped off fans/crazies - it was easy to see, didn't hear any foul language barbs thrown at him from stands to warrant that. On the other hand, Cru goalie kept his team in the game with some amazing saves, plus the stops in the shoutout, so more power to him.

 

CCH took not smart infractions at the wrong time - the free kick goal at end was due to a push/hold 60 yards from the goal.

 

Why did CCH change goalies for shoot out?

Crappy way to end the game but frankly, CCH did not deserve to move on in this one. The same issues that have caused problems for them the entire year and have not been addressed cost them the game.

 

- Committing silly, unnecessary fouls, like the one that lead to the tying goal with about 1:30 left in the game. St. Henry player fouled needlessly by CCH about 40 yards from goal. Free kick into the box where it is knocked around and in.

 

- Inability to defend set pieces. The three St. Henry goals came on two corners and the free kick at the end.

 

- Above all, the poor finishing. It was on full display tonight.

 

Congrats to St. Henry. They converted their chances and are moving on. Colonels will be thinking about this one for a long time probably as they should.

 

I agree mostly with what you said. However, three goals should have been enough.

 

One comment on the St. Henry goalie all of the St. Henry fans might want to consider when they are defending him. My son had his hand stepped on by a St. Henry defender in front of the St. Henry goal. He gets up in obvious pain, and the St. H goalie said "I hope its broken." It probably is.

There was little to no wind last night. Cru missed their share of opportunities as well. Let's not diminish the effort and hard work done by each team last night. It was a great game...someone had to win and someone had to lose. Each team gave it everything they had. Don't rub salt in the players wounds or try to make excuses for why your team should have won. The game was played and a result was achieved.
