October 21, 201411 yr You weren't the "fall guy" Smitty, you were terrible. I don't understand what the problem was if Price thinks 10 guys being thrown out isn't a big deal. Unless he looked at each individual situation and realized that the majority of the 10 guys that got thrown out were ridiculously horrible decisions.

With Smith at third base, the Reds had a Major League-most 28 runners thrown out at home on non-force plays, the most by a Reds team since 1977 (36). Fall guy.... Please.

October 21, 201411 yr How are 10 of the 28 only his responsibility? That many guys ran through stop signs, I'm assuming? Several of them were thrown out because the contact play was on. I'm guessing it was called from the bench.

October 21, 201411 yr Good move. But he was not reason our season was so bad. There are far more pressing issues than the 3rd base coach. I'd say that our 2-5 hitters stranded a lot more than 28 runners at 3rd base.
October 21, 201411 yr Did they take into account how many guys were thrown out by 5+ feet? It had to be how bad over how many.

October 21, 201411 yr Well my problem with the World's Worst 3rd Base Coach was the situations in which he had runners thrown out. It is one thing to have a runner thrown out at home with two outs in the third inning of a 0-0 game with the pitcher due up next.....that's bad. It is another thing to have a runner thrown out at home with 1 out and what would have been bases loaded with the 3 hitter due up next trailing 5-4 in the 8th inning......that's real bad.
