October 22, 201411 yr Several of them were thrown out because the contact play was on. I'm guessing it was called from the bench. I have never understood the contact play. When the ball is hit, see where it is going. If the infielder is moving to catch the ball, then run. If it is hit at them, stay! If a professional runner can't decide that on his own in .5 sec then they are dumber base runners than i thought. The .5 decision that you have to make would have less runners thrown out than the stupid contact play. I you wait until it goes through you score anyway. It eliminates running into outs!

Also, if a runner is on 3rd with 1 out and a ground ball is hit in the infield. What situation would you rather have? A. Runner on 3rd - 2outs - Runner on 3rd held B. Runner on 1st - 2 outs - Runner broke on contact and got thrown out at home C. Runner on 1st and 3rd - 1 out - Runner on 3rd hesitated and infielder made play on ball but couldn't throw out runner at first.
October 23, 201411 yr I have no problem with the contact play at times as long as the runner at 3rd gets a good secondary lead with a good contact hitter at the plate. If the 3rd basemen is creeping down the line, the runner could get an extremely large lead as long as he stays behind the defender.
October 23, 201411 yr Still can't get over the Pirates game in July. 1st and 2nd no outs, ball hit to short on a line with a clean field and throw by Marte. Idiot sends the runner home to be thrown out easily and passes up bases loaded no outs with Meso due up. Good riddance
