Stop overreacting. You tied with a good Carolina Panthers team. Andy Dalton showed that he didn't need AJ Green to succeed. Can't win every game.

Record wise there is t a reason to be concerned. I never thought they'd go 16-0

 

It's the way they are losing that is the concern. Defense used to be the best part of this team and would help overcome areas of concern from other aspects of this team.

 

Now it's the defense that is a concern and although Dalton played really good without AJ for most of the game, I don't know of many people that think he can carry this team and overcome the poor play on defense to win a lot of games.

Let me put it the only way I can without overreacting. This is a very good offensive team and AD is a much better QB that I thought he would be already this year. He is not the problem. Their offense scored 34 points in regulation. That should win the ballgame with this defense or what I thought was a good defense.

 

The defense is just not very good right now. Granted Cam is an excellent QB and rushed for over 100 yards, but the defense just have not gotten teams off the field on 3rd down the last two games. Teams have figured out the blitzes and they just cannot get to the QB enough. No sacks today and a few hurries. Defensively, we have to get this figured out or the Colts will score at will, as well as, the Ravens and Browns.

 

Penalties were the story of this game. I don't know if they were legit, but I have to think most were.

 

The tie feels like a loss. The games that will be critical are the 5 left with the AFC North. We gotta go 4 & 1 in those remaining.

Just got back from the game and here's my .2 cents...

 

+ Dalton, after the INT overthrowing Gresham in the 3rd Quarter made some nice throws in the 10-25 yard range which is not in his wheel house. We've been dinking and dunking to mask his inefficiency and it's what opposing defenses are giving us.

 

+ Gresham had his best day yet this season and didn't fumble the ball after YAC.

 

+ DBs didn't give up too much and made some nice plays.

 

- Burfict, as stated earlier, is not long for this league. He will pickle himself if he continues to lead with the helmet. He has an even bigger target on his back by the NFLs officiating crews.

 

- Burficts pass coverage...blew coverage on a couple occasions the one time allowing a TD as a result.

 

- Someone teach these defensive lineman/OLBs how to defend the read option. There are high school players who defend it better than the Bengals. Cam Newton had a field day taking advantage of our "lack of skill set/knowledge."

 

As a fan of football Newton is one cool customer and he was a lot of fun to watch. The sideline routes, nearly always to the right, was there all day and the Panthers took advantage. He threw many balls on a rope in 2nd and 3rd and long situations with success. That accompanied with the read option was the difference.....and a MISSED FG to win it!

 

I feel bad for Nugent, this team, and we the fans. I "kiss your sister" tie sucks anyone you cut it, but it happened and we'll live to play another day. Panther kicker is a beast and I'm sure there are a few more out there who would serve the Bengals better than Nugent is this season. I do think the Bengals will keep Nugent for the remainder of this season. However, he may speed that departure up if he continues to struggle.

If Nugent is putting his kickoffs into the end zone everytime, they wont cut him. Teams take this into consideration more than FG%. Its one of tbe reasons why the Titans cut Rob Bironas. His % of touchbacks slipped below 70%.

I think one thing that a lot of people have overlooked is that Cam Newton looked healthy for the first time all year. Carolina is a TOTALLY different team when he can run and he has not been able to all year until now. I am not sure the Bengals were ready for his running today as he may have had more rushing attempts than in the first 4 games combined.

 

I also thought the Bengals got hosed on the holding penalty that negated the late in regulation rushing TD...that did not look like holding to me from the angle they showed on the replay...huge call. Early in the game the announcers said this officiating crew threw more flags than any other - and boy do they...too bad...

Henery was worse. He was 1/5 before getting cut and some kicks weren't even close. Cutting Nugent and signing someone worse doesn't exactly help things.

Hey I have a post you made showing you agreed with me, even though you wanted to change the words around. Go ahead and ask others if they also think that post you had earlier this season was basically the samething I been saying.
