Conner Freshman players looking for way out.

No it's not as simple as a ranking in a publication, or Hellbird's opinion. You wanted to talk facts. I'm measuring by what college bound students want to take (I'm assuming all of these students that are transferring to Beechwood for academic reasons would be college bound), and what's offered. You still haven't answered the question of how many college hours can a kid graduate from Beechwood with by taking AP classes, etc.? I looked up all of the classes offered at Conner, a schedule a student can potentially take, and the college hours UK would give for scores on exams. I'm talking in facts.

Your question about college hours can a beechwood graduate graduate with I have no idea but I would guess Conner isn't any more

Than BW kids or cooper

Kids or whoever. Many of the schools

Offer dual enrollment. I do t understand what your point is unless

It's to say a Conner student can get a diploma and go onto to college just like any other student from any other school can.

I simy do not understand your argument. Are you trying to say Conner is rated higher than Beechwood then do me a favor and show me a link saying so.

I could care less if little

Johnny goes to Conner or not. That has nothing to do with the debate. The question was what does beechwood offer that Conner doesn't and it is simply Beechwood is among the top

Schools

In the state and nationally ranked.

Like I said, provide a link stating otherwise please because until you do you have zilch to go by.

Hey I'm sorry you're school isn't ranked as high. That's life.

I proclaim that your Beechwood education is robbing young students of a diverse socio-economic immersion. But so be it, remember, "pinky up"

That's because you don't understand what is important to college bound students. It's how many hours you can get on the cheap in your HS before you have to pay premium $$ for it, and what's offered. Student's can get quality education at almost any of the NKY schools. I don't go by what some magazine says is so. I actually do the looking up, and what's offered for potential students. Put a motivated student at Conner or Beechwood, and they'd be fine at either institution. But to say that Conner doesn't offer the same level of education is wrong.

Hmmmmmm. Ok, then I will

Stand by this. Beechwood teaches their students better apparently because their test scores are higher % wise.

Again I never said Conner can't prepare one for college.

I think kids are going to BW (or where ever else) from Boone County because....they can. I think it is a combination of many things...not just the academic, or athletic programs. As far as the "rough and tumble" factions that are reported at many larger county schools....Im sure BW has the same...probably easier to detect or stay away from in a smaller format. I think it is a choice. Some of kids mentioned do not play football any longer, some are not "studs". Many family factors go into these decisions....tuition costs, do the parents live apart?, student needs, transportation, and ultimately what is best for all....Im sure because BW traditionally fields quality sports...that plays into it, but so does the academic excellence demonstrated over the long haul.

Living in Boone county the last 12 years myself...I hear the rumblings each year from a few disgruntled parents or kids about life (schooling and athletics) at all the Boone county schools...not just Conner. Conner has rebounded nice this year from a rough beginning.

I'd rather my kids go to Cooper than Conner. .

Why?

I'd argue HB's usage of overall scores comparing BW to other county schools is not the best way to evaluate a school. No really good way to do it.

However, as akw has pointed out, if you're a serious student you can't argue with the options and success that you have at a county school like Conner. If you're a serious student you have more choices (not because Conner is better ) but simply because they can offer more options due to size of school. If you're a top student then you should also consider Holmes who (at least they did at one time) offer an IB program. I remember a girl who left NDA (darn good school academically) to go to Holmes for the IB program which NDA could not offer.

The other fallacy in using overall scores is that the school is the sole educator of the child. I'd argue that Ft Mitchell has a much higher % of college graduates as parents (and is wealthier) than a large public school that includes rural areas. If we agree on that then that tells us that expectations of the child may be (probably) are higher and ability to work with the child at home (or pay for tutors) may be higher as well. So it's no surprise that the average kid in schools in wealthy areas outperform the average kid in less affluent areas.

One could argue that the teachers in the less affluent schools have more of an impact on the average kid getting into collage than their counterpart at wealthy schools.

So generalizations about schools is just that. It does not pertain to a particular student and his/her abilities/potential.

Why?

I just prefer Cooper knowing the faculty etc. No other reason, not saying one is better than the other, just personal preference is all.

With that said, if I had a choice is choose Beechwood over Cooper or Conner.

Cooper just experienced some valuable turnover with their staff.

Let me add that if you're looking to be prepared to earn credits on the national AP exams given each year you could certainly do worse at many schools than you would do at Conner. Ex: 46 students took an AP exam in one subject last spring and 80% did well enough to earn credit. Not just 8 kids getting that credit. About 36 or 37 of them.

One more example of the many ways you can measure a school's performance.

If the Varaity coach puts these guys in for 1 play, they are locked in to Conner? If so, maybe he should start doing that, otherwise when 1key player jumps, then they all start that downward spiral.

BW is a great school. I think the draw of great academics and a very good football baseball team is a big draw. I would like to know the number of kids out of BW district that play varsity sports vs the out of district kids who do not play a sport.

I understand you don't want to hear the facts, but Unfortunatly that is all I deal in. Do me a favor and look up the national rankings. If you like just look up the state rankings. Beechwood has been nationally recognized and I Al's believe last year alone they were the only HS in NKY recognized and 1 of only 2 schools in the entire state to win national award for the same.

I live in Boone co and am proud of the school system here, but don't try and compare Beechwood to Conner, it just doesn't hold up. I'm not putting down Conner at all, but to be stubborn and refuse to give credit where credit is due like you are doing is just wrong.

Here is just one site you can visit yourself

Best High Schools in Kentucky - KY School Rankings

Beechwood is ranked 4th on this list alone for ky schools while Conner is 25th. These are just based off of test scores.

There was an interesting top 10 list a couple years ago in Cincinnati Magazine. It was the best of the best issue and they had the best of the best schools and Beechwood also made that list and was near the top. The one thing that stuck out in the article was the teachers. They listed all the top schools and the degrees the teachers had at each of the schools. Most of the other Beechwood was the only school in the entire issue that just about all the teachers there had Phd's.schools the teachers didn't come close to the education level the Beechwood teachers had on avg. that always stuck out with me.

Now you can keep telling yourself Conner has the same education level as Beechwood, and there are some great teachers and students at Coner, but I'd take Beechwoods education over Conner or any other BC school everytime.

Here are national rankings

Do me a favor and do a search for Conner(who isn't ranked) and look at their English and Algebra%'s compared to the nations %'s

then look at Beechwoods.

Not very impressive. If you have a PhD and are still working as and making a teachers salary, that isn't very smart! IMO

Picking a school for sports over education is the real sad part. I call that awful parenting!!

Beechwood is one of best academic schools in state. Try again.
