Conner Freshman players looking for way out.

I understand you don't want to hear the facts, but Unfortunatly that is all I deal in. Do me a favor and look up the national rankings. If you like just look up the state rankings. Beechwood has been nationally recognized and I Al's believe last year alone they were the only HS in NKY recognized and 1 of only 2 schools in the entire state to win national award for the same.

I live in Boone co and am proud of the school system here, but don't try and compare Beechwood to Conner, it just doesn't hold up. I'm not putting down Conner at all, but to be stubborn and refuse to give credit where credit is due like you are doing is just wrong.

Here is just one site you can visit yourself

Best High Schools in Kentucky - KY School Rankings

Beechwood is ranked 4th on this list alone for ky schools while Conner is 25th. These are just based off of test scores.

There was an interesting top 10 list a couple years ago in Cincinnati Magazine. It was the best of the best issue and they had the best of the best schools and Beechwood also made that list and was near the top. The one thing that stuck out in the article was the teachers. They listed all the top schools and the degrees the teachers had at each of the schools. Beechwood was the only school in the entire issue that just about all the teachers there had Phd's. Most of the other schools the teachers didn't come close to the education level the Beechwood teachers had on avg. that always stuck out with me.

Now you can keep telling yourself Conner has the same education level as Beechwood, and there are some great teachers and students at Coner, but I'd take Beechwoods education over Conner or any other BC school everytime.

Here are national rankings

Do me a favor and do a search for Conner(who isn't ranked) and look at their English and Algebra%'s compared to the nations %'s

then look at Beechwoods.

The second bolded kind of makes the first bolded laughable.

Beechwood has an excellent teaching staff. I'll go out on a short limb and guess none of the teachers have a doctorate.

In my opinion, if you switched the teaching staff's to put the Beechwood staff at Conner and the Conner staff at Beechwood, there would be zero change in the results. Beechwood is a great school because of the parental support, the family's value of education and the community, not because the teachers are better. A kid that cares about his/her education and works hard can get the exact same education at Conner as they can at Beechwood. The inner workings of the school have very little to do with the results. This is a myth.

I'd argue HB's usage of overall scores comparing BW to other county schools is not the best way to evaluate a school. No really good way to do it.

However, as akw has pointed out, if you're a serious student you can't argue with the options and success that you have at a county school like Conner. If you're a serious student you have more choices (not because Conner is better ) but simply because they can offer more options due to size of school. If you're a top student then you should also consider Holmes who (at least they did at one time) offer an IB program. I remember a girl who left NDA (darn good school academically) to go to Holmes for the IB program which NDA could not offer.

The other fallacy in using overall scores is that the school is the sole educator of the child. I'd argue that Ft Mitchell has a much higher % of college graduates as parents (and is wealthier) than a large public school that includes rural areas. If we agree on that then that tells us that expectations of the child may be (probably) are higher and ability to work with the child at home (or pay for tutors) may be higher as well. So it's no surprise that the average kid in schools in wealthy areas outperform the average kid in less affluent areas.

One could argue that the teachers in the less affluent schools have more of an impact on the average kid getting into collage than their counterpart at wealthy schools.

So generalizations about schools is just that. It does not pertain to a particular student and his/her abilities/potential.

You are so right on this subject. Cultural, societal, parental and financial influences are so much a part of the College test score that the test itself is almost laughable. Comparing test scores may make parents in some districts feel better about their schools, but it is in no way an accurate measure of the teachers or the educational product in a school district. All hail to those schools achieving in those testing areas, but don't ever think schools like Conner, or Lloyd or others aren't reaching and educating kids at the same level. They usually just have more to deal with.

As a Colonel fan, I am disappointed for the Freshman, as they lost a tough game in a tough way last night. However, I sincerely hope that last night's win is a spark for the Conner football program and helps with some of the morale issues that this thread has mentioned. Good win Cougars! I just wish it was a different opponent. But, in consecutive weeks you have beat HHS and Cov Cath. Good for you!

To be fair your original post was a bit misleading since you said "players" and then it was found the kid in question is going nowhere.

The morale issues have been greatly overblown.

That's funny because I put player/players so no one would zero in on them, so I guess the way you have it worded, your kid isn't going anywhere now that they are winning? Or you just think you know who "they" are...... But year isn't over.... We will see who is back. Next school year. Thanks for the replies :)

As I expected this is much ado about nothing. Kid and his dad know he is in the plans and is expected to be a key contributor over the next 3 seasons.

Then I guess this isn't the first time you are hearing this???

My kid? My youngest is 21 so ...

Come on. You got on here and made a big deal over one kid who , like a lot of freddies, misinterpreted some things. A mature discussion was had. Kid was fine. Your "now that they are winning" comment PROVES you have no clue as to what the issue was.

Will kids quit? I've never seen a frosh team return every player so your assumption is probably right that some won't be back.

It was absolutely the first time I heard this. However, I'm old. Been around BGP a little bit. See these kind of threads all the time. Nothing to your claim.
