6A - Louisville is far and away the best

5A - BG and WC to me make WKY the best - Cooper is the best for NKY (only NK team in top 14 that I see)

4A - with Highlands and CC NK is probably the best, although Owensboro and Madisonville seem to be better than CC and WK has depth with Franklin Simpson and Warren East

3A - Eastern KY Belfry Bourbon, Bell, Corbin (I'm assuming all those sound like EKY teams) - nothing for NKY here in top 10 that I see

2A - Louisville with LCA and DeSales and Bardstown, WKY strong with Ocath, Caldwell, Murray and Glasgow (all top 10 teams) - don't see anything ranked for NKY

1A WKY with Mayfield and Russelville or EK with Pikeville Hazard, all I see for NKY is Beechwood ranked 6th

 

4A is the only argument I can buy for NKY and depth is close race with WKY there

No, that says nothing, when 99% of them have come from one or 2 teams.. The question isn't is Highlands better, the question is is NKy in general better, which includes all teams.

 

The question is, is N Ky (ie: teams from Boone, Kenton and Campbell Co) the strongest region "top to bottom" in the state.

 

So I say again, look at all the state Champs and Runners up historically and show me another region that has had such consistent representation "top to bottom".

Top to bottom - I'd have to agree with Purple 88...WKY better in 1-3A, close to even in 4A, although more depth in WKY, 5A better, 6A relatively even between NKY/WKY (this year maybe a slight edge to NKY).

Mex, you are right. Geographically speaking though when you look at the teams that are in the BGP NKY listings and put them on the map they are in a VERY tight knitted area. When you do the same for the WKY BGP areas they are much spread out. You have a point though. I guess I have a big geographical appetite!

OK - all the teams listed by Purple 88 are mostly from District 1 and 2: Mayfield, Russelville, Murray, Caldwell, Ocath, Swarren, PT, OHS, Warren East, FS, MV, BG, WC, Mcracken and Meade

 

Only 3 are from district 3 - Glasgow, Etown and John Hardin (and all are the lowest ranked among their classes)

 

 

So narrow it down to 2 districts and we'll go with Districts 1 and 2 in WKY - Still the same answer

I am not sure you could really call Meade County or John Hardin Western Kentucky.

In my opinion it's pretty even all around. All the regions have a couple consistently great teams, a couple of consistently good teams, and a bunch of average or below teams. I don't think an argument could be made for top to bottom for any certain area of the state. When I think of NKY I think of a few really good programs, but not much after that. I'm sure when y'all think of WKY, there's the same thought. In my eyes, as a state we can say its consistently even when you say top to bottom.

WAY overstated. 1a & 2a deserve to be in the conversation. There is no 3a. You can make a pretty decent case for NKY 4a as the standard bearer. 5a is second tier around here with only the Cooper appearance in the finals a couple of years back, and 6a is the same way compared to the Louisville area.

NKY has a few good teams... but by and large the product is very middle of the pack.

 

In 1A you have Beechwood. The Tigers are an excellent program and one of the best, but the rest of NKY 1A is extremely weak. Beechwood typically breezes through the regular season and playoffs.

 

In 2A NewCath has been the premier program, but once again their district mates and region mates are among the weakest in the class. Outside of Cov. Holy Cross having a couple years this is once again a one horse race.

 

In 3A NKY doesn't have a team.

 

In 4A NKY is strong. Highlands and CovCath typically are two of the Top 3 teams in the class. I will give them dominance status in 4A for sure.

 

In 5A NKY has some very competitive teams. I think the NKY district is about as balanced as any district in the state, but with that said the NKY teams really have not been a major factor in the title picture.

 

In 6A NKY once again has a nice competitive district with no real stinkers... but once again the very best team is fortunate to be in the Top 10.

 

The numbers would show for regions:

1. Louisville

 

2. Western Kentucky

 

3. Northern Kentucky

 

4/5. Central Kentucky/Eastern Kentucky

 

6. Southern Kentucky

Better is so subjective. What measurement are we using? How many people, if any , on here are qualified to make such a judgement?
