And I'm a sports fan through and through. But high school football is at the very top of a long list.

Don't wait till fall, we're here all year!

High school football--memories of wjen we were 10 foot tall and bullet proof, not to mention 50 year younger, 45 pounds lighter and didn't have to shave your head so women don't know you are bald.

Very well put about coaches who value of the ultimate game. LIFE.

The smell of the fresh cut grass, the feel of the lights on Friday night, and tailgating with old friends.

Some that have always gotten to me.

 

The smoke from a grill rising into the evening just as the sun's setting.

The National Anthem in small KY towns in Fall.

That feeling in your gut just before the opening kickoff.

When schools that aren't supposed to make a run make one and the way it transforms the entire community.

Talking with your buddies about games you played 20 years ago like it was yesterday.

Waking up early on Saturday, going to get coffee and a paper to read about the night before's game.

Beating Ryle. Beating Campbell. Beating Boone. Beating Dixie. And beating Cooper tonight.

Sweatshirt weather, watching young men from the Pee-Wee leagues through the ranks of High School, and on to College to play the greatest sport on earth.

There are so many things to enjoy about high school football season.

 

Crisp, cool nights when it is perfect just to be outside. The walk to the stadium through fallen leaves with the smell of grills and sounds of the bands and pre-game music in the air. I like the gathering of fans in support of their team, even the opposing fans in support of their team. I enjoy the roar of the crowd on a long completion or the collective OOOHHH from both sides on a monster hit.

 

But I think most of all, I like that there are so many opportunities for kids to participate. It's not all about the QB or star running back. There's a spot for the senior that has labored through 3+ years of high school ball and is just a little too small, or not quite quick enough to start somewhere. He has the opportunity to make a tackle on a kickoff, block for an extra point or cover a punt.

 

There have been many times that I was getting in my car after a game and thought to myself "that's a lot of good stuff for only $10"

Your fourth point is outstanding. The energy generated by those runs is a great sight to see, even if you're on the other side of the field.

I've been nodding my head to just about every post so far except for a few...

 

I enjoy everything that encompasses hs football. By far the purest form of the game involving the purest hearts, ethic, team building, and preparation for life. The game of life is played much like the game of football. Good attitudes, work ethic, discipline, selflessness, planning and prep, team building, and unity have been keys to success in my life and many of these skilled were hatched, learned, and grown on the gridiron...The lifelong brotherhood of a teammate/s never dies!

 

Really looking forward to watching a game on natural grass tonight!!!
