Shelby Valley 64 Paintsville 61

Featured Replies

Johnson Central is at best, the 2nd best team remaining.

Belfry is the favorite, IMO.

JC may even be the 4th best team left.

Tigers cannot use that young excuse anymore. they were picked to win all season long. What excuse will they use next year.

Starting 4 sophomores isn't young? Hmmm..I believe it is.

WOW! I'm stunned! Central has the table set! As seen all year in this Region though anybody can win on a given night!

Central will have to play well against whomever is left to get a shot at Rupp, and play a little better than they have the last few games. If you remember Belfry was rated #1 in the region for a good part of the year by either Cantrell or Litkenhouse. Betsy Layne has been playing very good basketball the last couple of weeks, and they lead almost tip to buzzer against another team (Pike Central) that was the most consistent team in the region all year. Pike Central was also rated the #1 team for a good period of the season. And Shelby Valley is well,.....Shelby Valley. I think all four remaining teams have an excellent chance of taking the title. It will be the team that can just get hot and wants it the most for two more games, in my opinion that gets to take the big trip.

The tournament has turned out to prove just exactly what most people have been predicting about the region all year.................WIDE OPEN.

JC may even be the 4th best team left.

That could be said for the other three as well there ...old friend.

The team that beat them had an 8th grader and freshman playing guard all night. Lots of young teams in the region.

I agree with you there ole buddy.:thumb: But nobody said any of the other teams had the "table set."

Landon come back home to where all your friends are be a Rebels next year I wanted see you get to go to state so bad......

Wasn't I that said that, I've seen way too much inconsistency this year .

Sometimes it all comes down to match-ups too. The best team left could get beat by the worst team left, if they don't match up well.

Congrats to Coach Booher. He lost a lot of talent from last years team and still has this team in the region semi-finals. He had his kids ready to play tonight. Now the people up at Valley need to shut up and let the man coach because he has done a great job in his two years there.

On the other hand Coach Runyon has his work cut out for him to keep this bunch together for the next two years. Tonight in the first half they all tried to be stars and teams that do that this time of year usually go home early. The "shooting" order for Paintsville needs to be 1st option-Slone, 2nd- Vanhoose, 3rd-Grim, 4th-Pugh, and 5th-Bundy. The entire first half was whoever gets it-shoots it and it killed them. I am really surprised that they couldn't ever get it together this year because if they moved the ball and found the open man they would be impossible to guard.

Maybe he'll go to a Bart Williams seminar.:D

You might be right Legaer but I don't know how Williams got that bunch playing defense like they did but with a break or two they could be right in the middle of this thing. Pikeville held SV to 39 and they almost had that at halftime tonight!!

Getting beat by a team that played 1 Sr, 1 Jr. 3 Soph's, 2 Fr. and an 8th you CANNOT, I REPEAT CANNOT, USE THE EXCUSE WE WERE YOUNG.....its weak......

Landon Clone is the most overrated player ever in the 15th, the kid can shoot but the refs protect him like he is Jordan, if the game is called soft he scores over 20, if not he is avg. at best.

The top 2 Sophmores in this region are Bryant from SV and May from Belfry

Hopefully Paintsville will chalk this one up as a learning experience (remember they're still very young) and come back stronger and harder next season.

The Shelby Valley kids will no doubt chalk this one up as a learning experience too. Remember they're still very young (with an 8th grader and I think 2 freshman who both played almost the whole game tonight).

How long can Paintsville use the "still young and wait until they get more experience" thing?

I heard somebody say tonight that Virgie and Dorton both have talented groups moving up for who knows how many more years to come. Of course they will be young and hungry for more experience too.

Theres something in the water up there on Robinson Creek:ylsuper:

I'll agree with that. You can't tell me that the folks at Central couldn't be more happy with a first round game vs Pikeville (losing record) and a second round game with Betsy Lane (losing record) and then have Paintsville knocked out if they get to the championship game. The table doesn't get set much better than that! I look for Central and Belfry to duke it out in the championship! Like we've said all year though, this tourny is going to be a dandy because there really hasn't been a consitant team in the 15th this year.

I agree with the first part of your post but the part about Slone being overrated is way far fetched. I agree the refs do protect him more some than other players but I'm pretty sure he has earned that right. Tonight it bwas the first time it became obivious to me. Lets remember that exactly 1 year ago today Mr. Slone dropped 50+ points on the region favorites(SV). So to say he is the most over rated player ever isnt a wise statment. I do agree that Bryant did play like he was the top 10th grader in the 15th tonight but I've seen him play around 5 times and this is the first game I've been impressed. To say anybody is overrated I would have to go with him. All we heard on here when he was in middle school was how dominate he would be once he reached the high school level and I think its been a let down thus far. Some of the games I've seen him play at times he looked like he didnt care much if he wasnt even out there but maybe thats how he plays his game with little emotion I'm not sure.
