I disagree... I am not penciling it in as a Dragon win, but this team will be unpredictable this year due to learning a new system. Some games they will look like a top 5 team, and some games they won't... They have the talent to beat anyone in the State. There will be changes made and positions rotated... You learn more from a loss then you do a win, and Central learned a lot tonight. Central is the more talented team and Bowling Green executes better. It will be one for the books IMO...

No but it is close. I think Garrard County beating Wayne County is more impressive.

Defense was nasty tonight. Very physical. Colts are starting to hit their stride.

It's not unprecedented for it to happen. In 2009, in what was the 6th game of Mike Rogers' tenure, Fort Campbell, the defending and future 2A champ, walloped WC 49-7 at Dragon Stadium. Central went on to stun Bowling Green that October. Of course, that was when Bowling Green was still on the cusp of becoming this machine they are now.

 

It is fair to note that Central is still learning an entirely new system, and Shanklin made only his third start and fourth game as a significant player at WC in that system. As a junior, he would have been in sixth grade when Rogers was hired, meaning he learned the Wing-T at all levels, not the spread. I'd imagine it's an adjustment. And we sure as heck saw growing pains tonight in how he deals with pressure and how he goes through progressions once he starts getting pressure. Can that ground be made up? I'm sure as heck not optimistic. But I'd have never dreamed what happened in 2009 would, so you never know...... even when you're pretty sure you do.

 

I'll close with this. It's probably my pessimism and dissatisfaction with tonight's result getting to me, but I wondered on the way home whether I've already laid eyes on the last time I'd ever witness Warren Central beat Bowling Green. With what's coming up behind the junior class, it's almost certainly not going to happen any time soon if it didn't happen in this season or the next. I've said before that I think it will take a generation or more for the damage that was done to Central to naturally course correct, so barring an unforeseen reversal in a truly awful decision made in those district lines those 4 years ago, Central is about to take a step back from what is already a couple steps behind the Purples.

Eventually, probably. They're certainly better at the middle school level currently. Only time will tell whether this will be a temporary dip a la 1995-1999 when Greenwood drew even with Central in many respects in the wake of that school split, or if this is a permanent shift.

Colts D recorded 9 sacks, and held Feggins to 7 catches 103 yards. Pirtle was pretty much in the backfield all night. Another important aspect come playoff time is special teams. Johnson hit a 40 yarder. It's nice knowing you have that in your back pocket.

That is an average nite for Jensen and this was an average nite when he played last yr, one kid can not carry an entire team especially against a team like DeSales or someone equivalent.

There was support from the supporting cast, but I think what really ailed the Dragons in the game offensively was the inability to stop the pass rush as well as an inability to establish their running game. It's a strange new paradigm when the Dragons can't run the ball at all given that even before Rogers and the Wing-T it was the running game that Central hung their hat on. The most passing yards Central had in a season was 1700 yards from 1968-2002. I've always felt that you need each to set up the other, and when DeSales began to realize more and more that Central was going to drop back on every play, they teed off. Of those 9 sacks, probably 4-6 of them came in the 4th Quarter.

 

Feggins is an outstanding receiver and obviously a real asset. Only problem with him being there is that Shanklin locked in on him like a laser yesterday, and to an extent against Bourbon County as well. Shanklin is still developing and needs to work on going through progressions. I'm certain he threw for well over 200 yards - maybe even over 300. So other receivers got in on the action as well, but he looked at and threw for Feggins in some situations he probably shouldn't have.

 

The line needs a lot of work and they really need to get the run game going more.
