August 28, 201412 yr Author Unfortunately politics on all sides pander to the lowest common denominator trying to find that 10 second sound bite that just won't go away. Even when watching debates between candidates you can tell there are many little prepared zingers they are just waiting on an opening to let fly. True debate of ideas just doesn't happen anymore as neither side is will to tell us how they are going to do all of the things they promise during the campaign. I can't argue with any of that.

What's good for the goose as the saying goes. And as I'm sure the left knows it's much easier to do that then to actually refute the claim. Maybe next I'll try to steer the thread to a totally unrelated subject.

August 28, 201412 yr So, these so-called fake news sites include a disclaimer stating that they are financed by the GOP? If the intent was to hide the funding source, they failed miserably. The correct way to run fake news websites is to have big donors to fund independent "news" websites that have no paper trail to a political party. Examples are Salon.com, MoveOn.org, and MediaMatters.org. Taking it to another level of secrecy, anybody can hire a law firm to register a website to maintain their anonymity. Get a wealthy partisan to fund a website and hide behind a third-party domain registration, and then have your candidates point to it as an independent news source. Nothing to it.

August 29, 201412 yr How do we feel about the practice as a campaign tactic or a way of doing business? I don't like it, but it is the way politics has been done since I can remember. A website of fabricated information is the same to me as George Bush saying, "Read my lips, no new taxes." Both the website & the statement are based on falsehood. I do believe that this comes across as very juvenile--like something that would be done in a 4th grade class president race--but I don't see it different from what I've been exposed to since forever. And that has a great deal to do with my own growing dissatisfaction with politics in general. My nature is to want to follow political goings-on, but these people have soured me on everything.

And Dan Rather paid the price for his overzealousness, tarnishing what had been a pretty amazing career when looked at as a whole. Whose head will roll for this incident?
