I've never understood how the two scrimmage/one scrimmage/Week 0 rule makes sense.

 

-If you play week 0, then you only get one scrimmage but you do get a bye week, which means 11 events over 12 weeks.

-If you don't play week 0, then you get two scrimmages but no bye week, which means 12 events over 12 weeks.

 

How is that fair or safe? Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't make sense?

I think the lesson from week 0 and week 1 games being threatened by weather events is schedule close to home during those two weeks. Easier to reschedule and easier to resume a suspended game.

Not sure what the intent of the design of the rule. I liked when you had 2 scrimmages plus and open date.

Here is my fix without changing the schedule as it currently is.

 

Week (0 and 1) No Day Games, All games Kickoff no sooner than 8 P.M. local time, No Double Headers (Bowls) on the same night

Week (2) resume regular scheduling, first week for Double Headers to be allowed

Simply have the games at night. If a stadium doesn't have lights then play at the opponents stadium.

I wish they would just start with week 1 and forget this week 0 stuff. smh

 

 

On scheduling, I don't think the KHSAA needs to ban day games or double headers. They have a heat index rule in place to protect the players. Everyone knows the heat index rule, and I don't think the KHSAA needs to spend any more energy on mandating game times.

 

Isn't it up to the AD at each school to use some deductive reasoning when scheduling? If you schedule a day game in August, chances are that game isn't going to meet the heat index rule a good percentage of the time. If your game is delayed because of heat, then that is a risk you took when scheduling.

Nope. Scrimmages must take place after August 1st and prior to Opening Game.
