Best Running Backs that you have watched ?

Featured Replies

I was just kicking around like everyone else, bored waiting on the start of the college football season in a couple of weeks. What I wanted to see is who are the best running backs college football that you have watched through the years. With this we should get some different names / opinions depending on BGP'rs age

I will be 57 yrs. old next month so my list would look like (without looking up stats)

Herschel Walker - Georgia

Barry Sanders - OK. State

Billy Simms - Oklahoma

O.J. Simpson - U.S.C.

Marcus Allen - U.S.C.

Bo Jackson - Auburn

Tony Dorsett - PITT

Johnny Rodgers - Nebraska

Archie Griffin - Ohio State

Eddie George - Ohio State

IF I had to pick a top 5 (and those are all great, imo interchangeable), I probably would go with : 1. H. Walker, 2. B. Sanders, 3. B. Jackson, 4. O.J. Simpson, 5. A. Griffin

Awesome thread Old Rambler.

Here's mine, and it's the best running back performance I've seen in person and at that level. It's a Texas High School Football story that will probably be an interesting story to some or a scroll over for others.

Daniel Brooks, Current So., Oklahoma Sooners, ; 5'8, 185 from Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, TX; 4* recruit by most services.

Saw him in a game down in the South/Central Texas area and the kid was unreal. Made the trip with another classmate to watch a friend from school and his Dad coach. Knew that the kid was going to Oklahoma. Got to see him carry the ball all of 3 or 4 meaningful times. His team eventually lost in the Round of 8 in the 4A Texas playoffs to Johnny Manziel's old school (lost 50-43... 5A is the biggest in TX).

As a junior, 10 carries for 122 yards. Didn't get to see much of him because the game was a blowout and the playoffs began the next week, but the way he looked, in a Texas game no less, was incredible. Ironically enough, it was the only game that year where he didn't score a touchdown, but again, it didn't matter.

If we're going all-time, then seeing Ladanian Tomlinson catch and carry the ball against the Bengals in Paul Brown is going to be hard to top. All things considered though, Brooks is probably the best running back performance I've seen in person considering the level they were at, how close we were to the field, etc.

Nice picks RP, and welcome to bgp. :thumb:

Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson, 1A & 1B. Then the rest.

In College no doubt Bo Jackson was hands down the best I have ever seen in person. Next would be Adrian Peterson. His freshman year was one of the most special things I have ever seen from a running back. Injuries hampered his college legacy.

1. Bo Jackson

2. Adrian Peterson

3. Shaun Alexander

4. Michael Bush

5. Trent Richardson

These are only ones I saw live and at the college level.

In person. Hershel Walker. One not being mentioned is Marcus Dupree. Could have been the best all time.

In college my top 5 would be

Bo Jackson

Herschel Walker

George Rogers

Archie Griffen

Earl Campbell
