2014 Kentucky HS Boys Golf Thread

I'll have to ask my son when I get home tonight.

Met him this morning when I dropped my son off for the tournament. Winkler, for some reason can't recall his first name.

Pete Winkler. He is the brother of the soccer coach. Friend of mine and an intense competitor in his own way. Not a yeller and screamer, but he is very much about doing things right.

Hearing Estill county won 14th region again today. Congrats to all estill team and coaches. special congrats to joe benton firing a 76 and only a 7th grader.

I have heard Ryle won the 9th Region (I believe that is region that they are in for golf) and Covington Catholic finished 2nd today.

Ryle will be tough to beat. St X always brings a strong squad. I thought someone once told me that the 9th region is called the 7th in golf, but I am not completely sure on that.

St. X shot -11 as a team yesterday if you count all 5 scores. I'd say that's pretty strong.

I say they win State by 10+ shots next week.

Here's a link to the regional results from yesterday.

Unless something's changed in the last few years there's only 11 or 12 regions in KHSAA golf. It's not the same as basketball or baseball. Estill's probably in the same region with Powell, which I believe might be the 10th, but I'm not sure.

Congratulations to the Engineers!

Congrats to the Ryle Raiders.....and a special shout out to Austin Zapp :banana::banana: who finished 3rd overall.

I just checked the KHSAA website. Estill is in the 11th region.

Does anyone know who won the 10th region? Somerset won the All A state title a few weeks ago but when you throw in the bigger schools in the KHSAA tournament the competition stiffens.

Wow!

I just looked up St X's scores from yesterday's region an their 5 entrants, all juniors, shot 66, 68, 69, 73, and 73.

You just don't see that kind of scoring very often in high school golf.

Congrats to Parker Harris, Senior at Highlands, who won the 8th region individual crown with a 69. Great competitor and an even better young man.

I'd personally like to congratulate Coach Kevin Lawson and the Montgomery Co. Indians on qualifying for State. He's very young and quite frankly upset one particular team in their region for the 2nd spot, who a couple weekends ago, skipped out on a tournament in their own backyard to go play a practice round at Bowling Green CC.

I think that is a fair assessment, 276 is getting it done!

Scariest thing about St. X's score......they don't have any Seniors. Wow.

Congratulations to the 3 individuals who qualified from the 8th region. Parker Harris of Highlands, Drew McDonald of NewCath, and Cody Kellem of Grant County. Looks like Bourbon Co won the 8th and Mason is runner-up.

Shout out to Lil Spindoc for carding a round that was one stroke shy of qualifying for the State. He is just a sophomore, hope he works hard and earns that spot. He may be a better golfer than hunter.
