July 13, 201412 yr With his injury now, I'm not really sure there is much that they can do with him. They couldn't move him and contract this past offseason when he was coming off a 100 RBI season and healthy. They probably could have moved him but wanted more in return than what was offered.

July 13, 201412 yr BP is a different kind of dude and some of what he does has a way of irritating fans and even teammates. Quite frankly, he could stand to be a little more serious on the field. But that happy go lucky guy you see out there is who he is, and fans love him for it off the field. On the field BP has been the consummate team player. He has done everything that's been asked of him, and the Reds have asked a lot. No true lead off hitter - move Phillips there. Move to the two hole and make contact/ move runners over- BP did that. MVP gets hurt and you need a three hole guy - that was BP. Cleanup hitter gets hurt on opening day - move BP there and have him drive in over 100 runs. What more can you ask for. I will tell you that there are a lot of established players whom would not be receptive to all or even some of this change. More importantly, few major leaguers would have put up BP offensive production under such circumstances. Defensively BP is, and has been for six years, THE best player at his position in all of baseball. In fact, not many have been better EVER. I would argue that of all of the big contracts that the Reds have given in the last several years BP's may be the best money spent.
July 13, 201412 yr I agree. The guy hits all over the lineup and always plays defense and plays everyday. Sure he makes money but he is a veteran and his salary is not the hamper on the Reds payroll that some others are.

It's not club friendly at the end, I could see why the Reds would want to move him after this year. They certainly aren't the Yankees and can't pay guys bases upon past performance, gotta be ahead of that curve.
