BP will come back and be a sparkplug rah-rah guy like he always is, doing whatever he can for the team, while Votto continues to mope in the corner. I never have gotten the disdain for BP and how he lays it out on the field for this team. Reminds me of the way fans used to treat Eric Davis.

Heck, the fans (by and large) love BP, it is those in the clubhouse, the organization, and around the team that realize what a despicable human he is. His phony-baloney attitude has sold the lion-share of the fans. I think what the city's LCD fan wants is a little, hustling white dude. The Rose mentality. (which is what you said with Freel and Sabo, et al) What they typically loathe is a perceived lack of effort or taking one's talent for granted. If you aren't a "hustler" they turn on you. Paul O'Neill, Bichette, Dunn, to name a few. Eric Davis wasn't loved nearly as much when he played as the idea and memory of him are loved today. He was "made of glass" and "can't stay healthy" when he played. Now he is regarded as "Eric the Red". Love revisionist history.

July 15, 201412 yr Despicable human was too much, you're right. So even if it's softer than that, there's still some apparent animosity behind the scenes that average fans aren't privy to. I just don't get what the rub is, especially considering how he kills it on the field. I can live with a guy jogging out a few routine grounders when he's diving all over the field saving hits and runs.
July 15, 201412 yr I have no doubt that BP is selfish & can be rude, especially if the camera isn't rolling. But I'm most interested in winning a World Series. Trading him doesn't help accomplish that goal in the Reds' timeframe...which might be when Latos & Cueto are here.
