Votto back to the DL

I think the knee problem has led to other problems. He has never looked like he was able to run well after coming back from the knee injury. He looked awful in Spring Training this year when trying to run. Why the Reds crack medical staff could not see this and take action is a concern.

If I was the Reds, I'd demand he find another training/strengthening regimen. I don't know who or where, but different that what he's done. They have way too much invested to get so little a return. As a matter of fact, I'd hire someone for him.

I wouldn't have played him every game right away when he came back either. I really don't know if the Reds have a good medical staff. I know Kremcheck is considered really good, but they seem to take far longer than expected to get healthy and some never really do. Not sure who that is on.

They were voted best in the MLB a few years ago. :idunno:

By all the other teams who enjoy seeing the Reds constantly having some of their best players on the DL for longer periods of time than they should be.:no:

Not sure on the rest of the staff, but my brother had TJ surgery 10 years ago with Kremchek and he won't let anyone else touch his arm again, even within his own organization I'd imagine. Hopefully it never comes to that anyway *knock on wood*

Lance McAlister had thebleacherreport's health expert on yesterday. He ranks the Reds' medical staff as one of the best. Kremchek has been on his best 10 doctors list a couple times and will be named again to his list that will be published soon.

Every doctor has patients who are not happy with their results. Every single doctor. That is the nature of healthcare.

^Not only that, but everyone's body, athlete or not, heals differently. AP had a major knee reconstructive surgery and was able to come back better than ever. Carson Palmer had major reconstructive knee surgery and was/is a shell of himself.

Some pitchers have TJ surgery and are better than before (Wainwright, Carpenter), others never return to form (Mike Hampton, Kerry Wood).

And then you have spindoc who has nothing but unhappy patients.

I kid, I kid.

I think part of the problem with the Reds healthcare team is they always "spin" injuries and surgeries as "successful and should be back throwing (hitting) (running) in 10 days" instead of saying "well it was surgery and it may be 15 days but it could very well be 30 days and even then Player A might not be 100%".

Interesting chatter at the game last night....Barnhart to catcher, Mersoroco to first base with Cozart and Frazier. Some campaigning for Schumacher at 2B.

And you do what with Pena?

He's the backup if Barnhart needs more time or if Meso struggles defensively. I'd think Meso needs a full off season to learn to play 1st.

That would be beyond dumb IMO.

And when you say chatter, are you meaning Joe Schmo in the stands who thinks he knows everything about everything or actual Reds personnel?

No one needs a full off season at 1st. If he can catch the ball and is credible on defense, which as an athlete and a catcher, I'd suspect he is, he just needs a couple days to get into the groove. The person at 1st isn't there for spectacular defense and an amazing arm, he's there to hit.
