July 7, 201412 yr I honestly can't comprehend people these days. I don't agree with A LOT that our country does, but I can't fathom how anyone who is an American citizen, and lives here, isn't proud to be American.

July 7, 201412 yr I am pretty liberal and while I don't always think our government acts in the best interest of mankind, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live. I don't agree with Lee Greenwood with much politically but he nailed it with "God Bless the USA".
July 7, 201412 yr The United States is maybe the only country in human history not founded along lines of nationality, race, religion, or ethnicity, but on a set of ideals. It's a country that even when it screws up, collectively says "We can do this better." From the outset, we believed we could improve on the monarchies of Europe and today still we believe we can still improve... at least the correct-thinking among us. To not be proud of something like that... it baffles the mind.
July 7, 201412 yr The first thing that pops into mind when I hear someone say this is, "Why are you here then? No one is forcing you to be American. Go live somewhere else for a few years, and then see if your opinion changes."
July 7, 201412 yr I know some of those 44%, most are Liberals and think all of the answers to US problems lie in how Europe does things. A couple are die hard Libertarians (their definition not mine) that think the US just just do a giant reset by what ever means necessary including the rise of militias and making each state sovereign. I agree with the sentiments of the other BGPers, Not always proud of America but ALWAYS Proud to be AMERICAN!!!

July 7, 201412 yr Same here, I wonder if the question was misunderstood. People are crazy. And I do believe that self-identifying liberals and self-identifying conservatives would view that question from completely different places, regardless of how they'd answer it.
