June 9, 201412 yr I am no country music person at all, but how Coal Miner's Daughter by Loretta Lynn isn't on this list is beyond me. One of my favorites is I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Rimes Another one that comes to mind is Your Cheatin Heart. However, I am not really sure how you decide what makes a country song good or great. 100% agree on "Coal Miners Daughter" "I hope you dance" is Lee Ann Womack "Your Cheating Heart" is Great!

Are we talking as a songwriter? As a singer/songwriter? Because you could have someone like Kris Kristofferson, who wrote several great songs, listed just once as a songwriter. But, if you talk about the people who actually sung those songs the best, you could be talking about 4 or 5 different people.

He doesn't sing particularly well but neither does Willie.
