IF they were doing what was ALLEGED and we're being completely honest, they probably just had a scale to make sure that they weren't getting ripped off. I'd buy that explanation much quicker than I would that they are some kind of hardened criminals.

I followed just didn't understand. I understand now that you don't have a problem with people using Marijuana. I am not pro weed I think once a lot of these guy make it to the NFL where they can buy larger quantities and more drugs that it is not a good path for them. Plus when you are given a 25k scholarship per year, I don't think you should be committing any type of crime misdemeanor or not, on campus in the dorm that is free to you.

 

I just wanted to get your position so when one of my OSU guys gets busted in the next year or so we know your position.

 

Now to answer your question; yes I feel Hatcher should be gone since its a 2nd offense. I personally would dismiss Quick since he didn't have 1 joint, he had paraphernalia to go along with a small time operation. At the very least he should be suspended for 1 year and have to go to some type of rehab and test drug free for several months before rejoining the team. Lucky for Quick I suppose is that Charlie Strong's core value sign is now in Austin.

Seriously though, if the dudes are staying stoned out of their minds 24/7 and it's controlling their lives, then yea, that's not cool.

 

If it's a couple of guys who were unfortunate enough to be "famous" and get caught doing that on a weekend while they were in college, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it's an experience they'll learn from and move on.

 

 

It don't think it's a reflection of Trinity High School, Kentucky, or Louisville, anymore than it is of lots of college kids in general. They are young men who got caught doing something that plenty of others were doing, but unlike the others, their names get clicks when put in a headline.

 

If it's something more, then it will be dealt with accordingly, but I'm going to reserve judgment unless there's more that comes out that we don't know.

JA, I think you know me well enough to know that I personally would take the same stance if it were an OSU kid as I would a UK or U of L kid. I think Deuce and PP92 are probably in the same boat with that one as well, at least as far as this issue goes.

Are they smoking pot? Yes

Are they passing college? Yes

Are they out hurting anyone? No

 

If he is selling pot then he is stupid. Keep it and smoke it.

 

I can tell you right now what the scales are for.

He and a few pitch in and buy some pot and weigh it out to what each gets. If they split an ounce then they have to weigh it to see who gets the half ounce. I am betting Quick gave Hatcher all stem.

Yes I do. Drugs are illegal for a reason and if he doesn't get his act together now once he's given millions in the NFL who knows what could happen to him. I just don't like Marijuana I've seen many former NKY friends who smoked a joint or two who are now downtown in Cincy doing Heroin. People eventually get bored with weed or start to smoke a ton of it. With athletes who can make a lot of money I think they should try to catch the issue early.

Not arguing with that, and understand where you are coming from. I just don't know if what we really know about the whole thing is enough to make the jump from weed to heroin. I do see where you are coming from with it being a slippery slope though, and definitely agree that if it's a bigger issue than what we might know, that something has to give.

 

 

Right now, I would imagine that either kid having his mugshot publicly accessible by people like us that he's never met who are sitting around and discussing it, plus seeing his and his friend's name in headlines is enough to hold him accountable for a first offense.

 

I'd imagine that both are probably embarrassed enough as it is and will hear plenty about it from their coaches. If they don't have a record, they'll probably get a diversion program with some community service, learn from it, and move on. If it happens repeatedly, then I'd think the consequences won't be as lenient, but I've not really seen any indication that it's past that point yet. I'd imagine that they are going to see and hear plenty as it is.

 

If it's something that's a deeper issue, then yes, I hope that they get some help to treat the underlying issues. I'm just not really sure that it's to that point yet. Just like there are kids who end up going down the wrong paths, there are probably just as many who'll experiment then get back on track.

 

With athletes, it's different than most "normal" kids. There are completely different kinds of support systems (for better or worse) in place for them, and I think that if they were really that deep that it would be incredibly difficult for them to perform at the level they've been able to so far given. Again, if it's an issue that's more than just an isolated incident, I'd feel much differently, and there's not really a good answer to it, but based on what I've read, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I have seen it to. But I have also seen rich/poor--white/black--athlete/non-athlete go down that same path and didn't smoke pot to start with.

I have also seen many just keep smoking pot and that's it. They turned out ok.

I am not a UL fan and I would take the same stance if these were OSU guys. If it were UNC then I'd be in full hate mode. Other than that my stance is pretty consistent.

I think Trinity should have to forfeit their playoff victory over SK in 2012.
