No way 1.5 ounces is 'intent to distribute'. A good lawyer could get away from intent to distribute with their eyes closed. Marijuna dealers don't have 1.5 ounces on them. They have quarter pounds on them. I very very rarely sold my weed(I'm a selfish person) when I was in college and I would have anywhere from 3/4 of an ounce to 2 ounces at any given time. That was the norm.

 

Now, I hate that both are involved in this when they have so much at stake. Just dumb. Hopefully they can learn from it before it is too late. I hope both get to stay on their teams also.

An ounce of weed is NOTHING, and not an amount that guy dealing would have. I know several people that can/do smoke an ounce in a week or two by themselves.

You do realize how insignificant an ounce of weed is, right?

I hope they both stay on their teams and get a ton of usefull community service since they did actually break a law and are held to higher standards than most on each campus.

Ounces are nothing, start talking pounds and you got something.

 

I wish more people smoked pot, the world would be less dangerous, calmer, smarter, and happier.

I'll be very surprised if Hatcher is gone.

I think the scale is what they would/could use to charge him with trafficking. Also depending on how it was packaged.

Slap them both on the wrists and go on. It's college. Tons of guys could get caught on any given day. If they were caught selling that would be one thing but catching a college kid with weed is not surprising.

Aren't they drug tested for weed? If so then this is stupid and selfish act on both of their parts.

The scales what rings the buzzer for me, most of my friends in college smoked and a lot of them would have half ounce to an ounce on them sometimes but none of them had a scale. Only people I knew that would have a scale were the ones who sold a little bit. Most college kids are too broke to have half pound weight especially if its medical. Big difference in an once of mexican dirt weed and dro. My money says they were small time dealing like most college kids able to make enough profit to smoke theirs for free. Not trying to make them out to be Geroge Jung.

There is no profit in small time weed dealing. You actually lose money even if you get to smoke for free. The scales are an eyebrow raiser but I still think any lawyer worth his salt could make this petty possession.

 

I am one of the bigger weed apologists on the board but I am with JD that it was a stupid and selfish act on both of their parts. I still hope they are allowed to stay in school and can compete.
